      Birds opened my heart chakra

I just had an amazing experience. I was meditating and working on my chakras. I sometimes have trouble with the heart chakra... it can be hard to imagine it opening, or to really feel my awareness very much in my chest. Well, it's 5:45 in the morning, and outside the birds started singing all at once, and at the same time I can faintly hear a TV in another room and somebody was doing owl calls and bird calls for a long time... and suddenly without my even trying I began to feel my whole chest tingle and fill with a joyful sensation.

I had been working patiently with the heart chakra for a while... probably 10 minutes, and really couldn't visualize a lotus opening... I kept seeing a flower bud, but closed tightly, and I didn't try to force it... just kept visualizing it patiently and gently nudging it to open, but it wouldn't. Then there came a moment that I just felt I was done with the heart chakra and naturally moved on to the throat. Your body just tells you when it's time. Then, like I said, the birds all started singing, plus I heard bird calls from the TV and my attention shifted quite naturally to my chest. It filled with a joyous feeling and tingling, and I visualized the lotus opening quite naturally, with no help from me at all... it was sort of like watching HI just before you fall asleep... in fact I almost felt like I was in a trance state at the time.

What happened then was amazing... I began to feel something like a huge bubble swelling inside my chest, and it felt fantastic. It swelled up more, and then it slowly rose up through my throat and into my head, and it rose to the top of my head and very slowly started to squeeze out through the top. Not to be gross, but it felt a lot like taking a crap... and come on.. you know that feels good!

And when it dissipated through the top of my head I felt amazing!!! In fact now I feel like I just had a great workout... like the endorphins are flowing through my body.

      Just felt like sharing.

I hate to do this, but I think you will get more discussion in paranormal than in R/S, even though it could easily fit in there. If you'd definitely rather it be in R/S I don't mind moving it back.

This is great, DarkMatters. These sorts of things are hard to really believe since there is nothing that can be pointed at and said, "this is the chakra, this is how it works". Personal experience is really the only way to find out about it, and this is why many people do not; because they need someone to show them something before they will invest their energy in finding it. It seems like this experience was a strong enough one that it should make further practice much easier because you have personal 'proof' that it is a real thing and you have a much better idea of what it feels like.

The ability to happily respond to any adversity is the divine.

      Paranormal? Really?

Well, ok... if you say so! I guess you guys want some content for the new forum, huh?
Go ahead and leave the thread in here if you think it's the way to go.

To me there's nothing paranormal about chakra healing, at least not the way I'm doing it. Before I understood what it is I would have thought so though.

All it really means is putting your awareness into different parts of your body and affecting the energy levels there. This board is filled with threads where people say they dreamed of getting shot or stabbed and they wake up with pain from it that persists into the day... so obviously the mind has the power to cause changes in the physical body.

Just as people talk about "worrying themselves sick"... stress can powerfully affect the digestive system and other functions. This isn't myth or magic, it's just simple fact, though in modern western culture even though we have such sayings about it and I think intuitively everybody realizes the truth of it, we tend to act like it's all just a bunch of hogwash.

When I realized all this I started to approach chakras a little differently.

Now I think about the entire area of the body... for instance the solar plexus... I include everything inside the abdomen, from the diaphragm to the top of the pelvis, but with special emphasis on the actual solar plexus area itself... the part where you feel the tickling when you go real high on the swingset. And for the throat I include everything from the top 2 ribs, which form the shape of the base of the neck, up to the top of the mouth... because it's supposed to be the chakra of speech/ talking.

I might not be technically correct according to any particular tradition of chakra healing, this is just my way. I know there are more minor chakras, which I'm unaware of, but I guess I've got it all covered this way, huh? Oh, and I also do the arms and legs, including the arms right after I do the heart (entire chest area) and the legs after doing the root chakra. Then, after energizing them all and feeling the flow of energy in each area, I concentrate on feeling it flowing THROUGH them all from bottom to top.

Just my way, and I'm new at it, so it could change as I go.

Is there a chakra that makes you work faster in cold places then you normally would?

DarkMatters, I agree with your assesment of chakras and it is the same way I feel. Thats part of the reason why we are/were looking into other naming options for this forum. Superficially, it is paranormal just because it is "Beyond the range of normal experience or scientific explanation".

      Thanks you two.

I gotta say... all day today I felt fantastic, and was more outgoing and friendly than usual... Coincidence? Placebo effect? Who knows? But even if it is, that's some great stuff!

One more thing i want to say about it -

Originally I was doing regular mindfulness meditation, focusing on the breathing. Well, when I work on the chakras and put my attention into my body instead of the head, I have absolutely no internal dialogue to try to shut off.

For some reason when focusing on breathing it;s hard to stop the subvocalizing, and I feel like every time Im breathing out I'm making an extended silent "MMMMM" sound, I guess because I'm thinking about breathing. Maybe that's alright, I guess it's like chanting an "Ooommm" mantra. But when my attention is in my body there's none of that.

Usually after working on the chakras for a while I go into mindfulness meditation, and then it's back to the same issues. Oh well... I guess I'll get better at it with practice.

The 'placebo effect' has gained the connotation of 'not real' in western culture but working with your body's own energy and the placebo effect are essentially the same thing, and that doesn't affect the reality of it. The only difference here is that you have gained some modicum of control over this phenomenon.

The ability to happily respond to any adversity is the divine.

Haha, yeah, I've always considered the placebo effect pretty amazing in itself,
without it really degrading the significance of, say, homeopathics.

      thanks for sharing, btw

I had a vaguely similar experience recently...

I was lying down in my bed stressing out about something and I tried meditating a bit. At first I couldn't drop the worry enough to focus, but then somehow I realized fundamentally that the worry was coming from my own mind and I could theoretically stop it at any time.

Suddenly my problems seemed non-existent and I got a feeling I could only describe as love in my chest. I realized that the feeling was endless and that I could give as much of it as I wanted to anyone, and I did a meditation where I would visualize people I know and send it to them. The feeling was gone the next morning, but I still felt euphoric.

Could this be explained by the heart chakra opening? I've never really read anything about chakras other than the few threads here, maybe I should do some reading.

Sounds like the heart chakra to me! I'd say just try doing some chakra work yourself for a while and see what results. All the info you'd need to get started can be found on the Practical Methods of Chakra Healing thread.

this is really cool. i don't work with chakras but i meditate a lot and have had similar experiences where my mind becomes very still and a rising feeling of utter joy and wonderfulness flows through my body and mind. ever get vicodin from the dentist after tooth work? it feels about three times as good as that. absolutely amazing! sounds like what you experienced was roughly the same but with a different method. cool thread!

lol how funny that this thread is about meditation and somehow also poo! it does the same thing to me! it sucks! i would take meditation over medication any day if that's the result! once i had been prescribed it and i went to the doctor about the constipation and the pain it caused and was thinking she would prescribe me more of it and that his would help the pain and make everything better. i had no idea that it was the thing causing it!!! lame. i do not like that stuff! i mean the initial good feeling is cool but after... not worth it.

I've had the exact same experience.. many times.. wtf is this bubble anyway? I can remove it during meditation, or after sports. After it goes away, I feel so much better, and I know how to remove it. But I still fail to understand how it keeps getting into my body into the first place?

i've never experienced any "bubble" per se but i know exactly what you're talking about. however for me it's more something i slip into that's an over all self for me. good meditation sessions make me come out of it and i get to feel like the true me, the selfless me. wow that's convoluted and esoteric! basically imagine you put on a suit that makes you feel unhappy but you have no idea you are wearing it. meditation takes the suit off and you feel like yourself again, happy and unbridled. that's what i experience although more or less like the suit, me, and everything else kind of stop. i just feel peace. it's really interesting because before meditation i didn't even know about this unhappy suit! it makes me wonder if i was ever really myself before i learned to meditate... i'm guessing not too often as i used to be quite grumpy...
