      Welcome to the DVA!

Looks like a good start! You can use this space to keep track of your dreams and anything you attempt, including fails. If you keep it up, in conjunction with a dream journal, you should learn alot!

      DAY 1

      Dreams recalled: 3

Used the mantra "Next time I wake up, I will stay completely still" Fell asleep too fast (approx 3 min)
Woke up at night (moved, so didn't bother trying to DEILD) but stayed in bed (should have gotten up!) Thought about doing MILD but fell asleep too fast.

      Dreamsigns:
-I dreamed that I was peforming WBTB (zzz silly me)
-My teeth fell out, grew massive and reappeared in the mirror (I read people on DV saying that weird things happen to their mouths in dreams. The thought must have carried over)
      -I was in an anime

      PROMISES TO SELF:
-I will GET UP the next time I awaken (If DEILD cannot be performed) and do WBTB MILD
-When I walk to school tomorrow I will practice All Day Awareness

      DAY 2

      5.27am.
Ending of the last dream: It was just a dream basketball game (common dream sign), but somehow it turned into a brawl between team-mates. I did not get involved when two burly men tackled each other to the ground. When the winner of the fight stood up, wearing a large grin, and I looked again at the man on the floor. It was a good friend of mine, who was petite and hated fighting. Now he lay limp, with sad teary eyes staying up at me, and a burning red face. "What happened?" I yelled. "He broke his collarbone." somebody replied. I was overcome with emotion, and the scene became unstable. When it faded to a familiar black, and I felt the familiar softness of my bed, I realized it had been a dream.

I did not move at all, and began imagining my last dream. It was extremely vivid, but my visualization wasn't very engaging or focused. I kept paying attention to the sensations in my body--the tingling in the nose, slight vibrations, slight ringing in my ear--I was too caught up in tracking my progress in the DEILD. I swallowed a couple of times (my thorat was completely parched, I should have drank water some time during the night), and I couldnt fall asleep because the sound of my grandpa's snoring (VERY loud) and the chirping of the birds to announce early morning distracted me from my imagining and brought my attention to waking reality. After a couple of minutes, I gave up, got out of bed and logged onto DV to type this up (as WBTB). So close to DEILD!

I will attempt MILD after completing this entry.

*In the middle of the night, I had woken a couple of times before this. Dream summaries:

-Surprised to realise I had forgotten my first dream--I had the whole thing recalled after I brought it back in my mind when I woke up
-Wag class, find my friend has somehow escaped too, chat at a table while looking out for teachers we fear.

      DURING OTHER AWAKENINGS:
1.Stayed awake for a long time due to itchy head and dry throat. Thought I would never fall asleep.
      2. Second awakening, realized that I HAD fallen asleep
      3. DEILD

Hello VictoReverie, welcome to our class!

For future reference, moving a little bit doesn't ruin your chances of a DEILD. Sure, it's good to keep still, but so long as you're still tired and you don't get out of bed, you can still try it. I think assuming that moving will ruin your chances at a DEILD is more harmful than actually moving.

The fact that you had a dream about WBTB is a good sign! All of your thoughts about LDing are coming out into your dreams. I hope that trend continues for you. Also, the clock RC would definitely be perfect for you. Good job realizing that was a dream sign.

When you practice SAT and ADA, what do you typically do? Walk me through the process, if you don't mind.

Welcome again, I look forward to reading more from you!

      Thanks Caenis!
The advice about moving slightly not ruining a DEILD will be SO helpful! I have been waking up heaps every night but moving slightly without thinking about it (using the mantra "When I wake up I will stay completely still"), and never tried to DEILD after I moved.

ADA--I only really practice this when walking to and from school. I try to notice my clothes, the different feeling on the soles of my feet when walking, the beauty of the rocks on the floor, the wind on my face, the trees. Sometimes I run my hands across tree bark and brick walls and pretend it's a dream with vivid sensations. I read yesterday in the DVA WILD guide that Saegous recommended All Day SELF Awareness, so I might concentrate on my own thoughts and effect on the environment next time.

SAT--I think "Is this a dream", think back to where I was five minutes ago. Think about everything critically, and try to notice unusual things. Then, I do a reality check.

*CBS doing MILD now. I'll just set up a REM rebound and nap today.

Spontaneously restarting DV work booking. Been keeping one in my computer, so might as well make public.

RECALL: Very Very good, 6 dreams recalled, due to Multiple awakenings prompted by DEILD mantra
LUCID: None, in my awakenings, I was remembering my dreams without really being conscious, and then didn't spot the transition into the dream.

      Holes
At this point I was thinking about bench press vs. pushups for some reason. In front of me is a MASSIVE hole, larger than a soccer field, and deep enough that falling down would mean certain death. There is a narrow shaky plank of wood which connects the two ends. I consider crossing for a bit, but reason that I will fall off and die. I look to my left, hoping that there will be another path, and see that the hole ends and there is grass on the left side. A plank appears on that grassy side, and when I look back, there is a plank lying perpendicular to the one which I was considering crossing. There is one person trying to cross, and another putting his hands up to catch the person if he fell (this was physically impossible, as he had no ground to stand on). The guy on the plank slips and falls on his spotter, who I thought also plummeted down and died. When I look down I am suprised to see that the drop has been replaced by a rocky hill, and both people had landed safely. When I look up again, a metal bar has appeared, connecting two ends of the crevice. Someone is crawling down the bar, and he tells me "look at this!". He swings down and holds the bar like a flying fox and slides down shouting something about scooters. When he jumps off I see a scooter at the end of the bar, which was presumably what allowed him to traverse down the bar. The scene transforms into a playground.

      Playing chess with friend
This has been a recurring theme lately, but its hard to incorporate as a dream sign. My body doesn't seem to exist, I see only the board. However, when I wake up I realize that I had actually played good (and legal) moves on the board. Next time, I may record the actual moves of the chess game and see how they play up to waking life analysis.

      Typical School Dream
I am at school canteen, and I see B buying a juice. I think that there is a juice with the straw already inside in my lunch box and was wondering if it was leaking into my bag. I walk until I reach a drinking fountain and begin to drink. As I look at the ground, I notice a leaf moving oddly. It isn't being carried by the flow of the water and seems to have a will of its own. I reason that it must be a camouflage insect and my suspicion is confirmed when it starts wriggling like a worm/ J appears next to me in shorts. I walk to sci-tech, and Y waves at me. I am finishing game of chess. However, the board seems to have morphed into a maths workbook. My opponent draws a hyperbola, and I draw a straight line, then say oops, and draw a straight line through the origin and say "I win!". We start discussing the rules of our "game"

      Sister Washing Dishes
I am at home. My sister offers to wash the dishes.

      Back to Childhood
I am at the playground with my younger sister. My parents tell us they are going on a date, and they seem to be leaving, but seat themselves on the park bench and ignore us. I play chase my sisters friend down the slide, but i get bored and want to go home. It starts raining, and I think about what I'll do when I get home, and my parents tell us that we're going home because its raining. My mother's pants transform into jeans, and my sister tells her that it makes her look like a hobo which I find incredibly offensive. My parents saying they are going to K-mart to buy new pants. At that moment, a car dives up to some people standing up on the sidewalk. It looks like they're going to crash, but the car pulls up smoothly to the curb next to him. The guy has sunglasses and short curly hair.

      Fake WBTB
I am WBTBing (I fell asleep after recalling my dream thinking about whether I should WBTB). Two people are in my room and ask me about whether they did a good WBTB. The clock says 4.00. I think about it for a while, and say that they have a good WBTB time. I tell them that waking up at 2am isn't a good idea, and when I look back at the digital clock it says 2.38 or something. Should have reality checked.

6 dreams, nice! I love the fake wbtb. Haha

Also, i think that DEILD is much more concerned with the mental state rather than physical. So don't worry at all about moving, as long as you minimize it. What matters is you keep that awareness, even if you move a little. Heck, even me and Oreoboy roll over during DEILDs, and it still works great! Just don't focus on the physical sensations too much because it might ground you into the waking world and keep you from going into the dream.

      Great job!

Thanks paige, i've stopped bothering to halt movement during awakenings, and focused soley on promoting these awakenings. Although my sucess rate has lowered, my recall has jumped up MASSIVELY (focusing on recall for a while so I can remember long DEILD chains)

RECALL: Seems to be as good as yesterday.
LUCIDS: None yet, but I have saved my prime time for lucids (the last, 60 minute REM period) for a WBTB/Nap

      Hunger Games
I am in a the Halo universe and I kill somebody on a gun turret with a shotgun and grenade. An enemy comes and throws a grenade, but it seems to just bounce around the walls indefinitely. I run away and somehow kill him, but for some reason his gun is still firing. I am almost dead (my health bar is almost depleted) but somehow my health completely restores itself while i'm still being shot at. I keep running and fight another person, but someone pops up behind me (he was invisible) and knocks me out in one shot. I am back in the game, and there are some cool weapons armour you can pick up and use instead of guns. Theres mechanical arms, body armor etc. That can be picked up at random points around the map. I run around aquiring these weapons, but eventually I find that they've all been aquired. I see somebody, everybody seems to be intent on their personal mission rather than killing people and I apporach, pointing my mechanical arm at him. We fight, and I swing a pole at him which has a toy bird head at the end (like a cartoonish mace). It catches his head and I smash it against a glass cabinet. He seems to collapse into an array of gadgets (must have been a robot). Theres a speaker shaped like a smiley face (which I own at home) on the floor, and I guess that hes the robot. Somebody comes and counts down to see if my fight counts as a kill/knockout. The speaker doesn't move, so they tell me I get a prize. He takes me to a basin, and there are objects inside. Unfortunately, there are no weapons. He explains that all the previous killers have chosen the weapons. I tell him "I'd rather you told me how to find another weapon rather than take a prize". He points to a suitcase, and I go to unzip it. Inside are a set of golf clubs. I am worried that they are too lethal, and pick up a light plastic one. It is a weightless, quick weapon, but would do no damage. I think about my own survival and pick up the deadliest looking club, which has a thin but heavy tip. My dad is behind me, and I tell him "If I make it to the top 4, I can leave the hunger games" (I realize I was in hunger games). My dad tells me to quit ASAP rather than go for the first place rewards.

      Remembering Dreams in a Dream
I am remembering my dream before DEILDing (perhaps it was an FA). I do not notice the transition into the dream and suddenly I am explaining to my friend how to make mental notes of a dream without moving so you can remember it in the morning.

      A Library Conversation
There's a kid at the library, and he's reading "Love in Time of Cholera". I ask him if he likes classics, and he says yes and we begin to talk about books. I ask if he's read "Catcher in the Rye" and some other books, and then he says "Don't you read any non-adult books?" I realize that he wants some book reccomendations for borrowing, and ask if hes read Eragon. We go to pick up Eragon but someone snatches it before us. Then, we go to find Lord of the Rings, and the title, cover and even blurb are completely different (You can read dreams! The blurb sounded quite interesting and suitable for a fantasy/adventure book). However, I knew/assumed this was the first Lord of the Rings book and told him to borrow it.

      No Underwear
I went to visit K's house, and I was wearing nothing but a towel wrapped around my body. The door is ajar so I creep inside. Everyone seems to be a sleep but K walks out to go to the toilet. Then her sister comes out and sees me but doesn't show any emotion. When K comes out of the toilet she sees me and is a little surprised. I realize I have no underpants on and I run around thinking about what to do. There are other people in the house and I dont know what to do. I retie the towel around my waist and then find a pair of undies. Someone is looking at me (presumably because I have no clothes) and I open a cupboard to hide in, but theres no space. Then, I go into somebody's empty bed and hide under the blanket to put my underwear on.

      Calculus Nightmare
I am doing a maths question over and over again. It is a simple integration, but I seem to be stuck in a loop where I do the integration and make exactly the same mistake. I never give up however, and each time I reattempt the question I remind myself that I should never make the same mistake twice. (maths never really "haunts" me like it does for other students, I don't know why I had such a dream about it. Maybe because year 12 exams are in 2 or 3 weeks)

Phenomenal recall! Let me take another look at that DEILD mantra you're using again...

Seriously, that's great stuff. It sounds like you are loosening things up a bit on yourself as far as moving while DEILDing. Are you using the same mantra as before or did you change that up as well?

Instead of my mantra I go through this visualization routine:
      1. I pretend am in a recent dream and it begins fading
      2. I lie in bed and recall that dream
      3. I pretend to transition into the dream and say "I'm dreaming!"

I've found it works better than any verbal mantra.

I achieve the really high recall by using the awakenings from the DEILD visualization (I get about 2-3) to remember dreams when its already too late to DEILD or DEILD didn't work. I then take one object from the dream and associate it with a real life reminder or a previous dream object. For example, last night, i visualized the hunger games novel under an oyster (1st dream). The novel turned into lord of the rings (2nd dream), then I imagined a DC (from 3rd dream) reading lord of the rings, then that DC wearing only a towel (fourth dream).

      Great Ideas VictoReverie!

I always thought that lucid dreaming straight after going to bed (at normal sleeping time, not during WBTB or nap). However as I was falling asleep last night repeating my DEILD mantra, i tried to turn my hypnogogic imagery and dreamlets into a lucid dream...and it worked! When one of my dreamlets (non-vivid dreams, lasts only a few seconds, for me they appear when I get vibrations during WILD) faded, I imagined myself back in, and successfully DEILDed. I woke up in my bed, but my vision was very faint. I saw my bedroom lamp, which then faded, but I could vividly feel the rubbing of my hands. I Then punched a hole in the window, squeezed my body through and fell, all the time partially blind. It lasted for only 15 seconds. I confirmed that the dream started right after falling half-asleep when I woke up and checked my clock.

That is incredibly cool. I believe that Xanous, TruMotion, and melanieb have all experienced really strong HI just before bedtime but I don't think that any of them ever turned it into a true dream. I've never personally hit anything quite like this so I find it pretty fascinating.

We've got to get you hooked up in a sleep lab and see whether you're falling straight into REM or if this is an NREM dream.

Really neat stuff. I love that this pushes the boundaries of what I'd understood to be possible. I hope that you continue to experiment with this and let us know how it goes!

Nice! I especially like how you squeezed through the small hole n the wall. Hahaha congrats on the lucid

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.

That is quite an amazing feat right there. Transitioning from awake to sleep and retaining awareness i difficult enough! This practice is discussed at length in "The Tibetan Yogas of Dream and Sleep". I would highly recommend the book; however, keep trusting your intuition. That will take you the farthest.

Yay had another lucid Stretched my arms out like Luffy from One piece. Tried spinning teleport to a park but ended up in bedroom instead. Then, I tried to draw a portal on a wall and woke up. Right when I awakened I realized I still had TOTM to do.

I won't bother trying that again, unless it happens by accident. I don't think I can get a long lucid out of it, and would rather wait till the middle of the night where the chances are much better. The book you mentioned sounds interesting! I'm interested in Eastern philosophies (religion, not so much) as well as dreams. It would be awesome if there was another scientific lucid dreaming book like EWOLD though

Great job on the lucid! I'm really interested about the drawing a portal thing. How'd you do it? And what did you draw? That sounds really cool :3

Congratulations on the lucid! You are really having a great week. Whatever you're doing, keep doing it! Maybe I really do need to steal that DEILD mantra you shared...

It's cool that you went for the portal. This is a technique that I'm very interested in as well. RareCola has done it successfully and reading his DJ entry about it convinced me that this was a skill I definitely needed to pick up. I believe that he used the portal concept from Valve's "Portal" series of video games. If you've ever played with those, that may be another way you can try. Here's his DJ entry for it: 12th September 2012 - 21st Lucid Dream [I'm in spppaacceeeeeeee] - Dream Journals - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views

Well my usual "portaling" method is just walking through a wall/mirror and expecting what I want to be on the other side . In that lucid I drew a rectangle (basically a door) with my finger. It didnt look that cool tho, kinda like a white rectange. Someone else I know uses a portal gun from the Portal game--perhaps that will be an awesome way to travel. I might use something similar because it looks way more mystical/cool/creative

      2 non-lucids recalled

      Rubber Band Wars

I am in a strange house with many corridors and open rooms, and seemingly no doors. It is a labyrinth where a battle is taking place. My team runs around the halls and rooms trying to find the enemy, but nobody is spotted. However, none of our own have been assassinated yet. Suddenly, some our opponents pop out and start shooting at us. I dash into a room and run up the stairs to escape a persuer. He doesn't dare fight me while I have a height advantage, so he calls his friend on a phone, telling him to approach me from the top of the staircase. He leaves to fight somebody else so I take the opportunity to jump down and flee. Then, I run into D who immediately turns around and runs. I chase after him, shoot, and miss. The rubber band lands right next to his feet, so I lie and say "I got you!" He curses and then leaves. My next opponent, T also runs, this time down an escalator, but I tell him "Why don't we just fight?" He comes back up and faces off against me on open ground. We only have one shot, missing means almost certain death. I shoot, and he tries to dodge but it hits his right shoulder. I continue to hunt people down, with much greater confidence now. I hit 2+ more people until I begin to feel that the game is reaching its final stages. I have singlehandedly wiped out most of their team. I go to a market and see the final two players, Q and M looking for me. Then, nearby, I spot two clones of M. I shoot one of the clones, but am now left without a rubber band. I go to pick it up but the other clone easily shoots me. I think that using clones is cheating, so I run away without leaving the game. I am now at a shopping center and looking for more rubber bands. When I begin searching, rubber bands appear everywhere, on the shelves, next to pieces of steak, tied around all the bags, etc. However they are all extremely thick, and impossible to shoot. I finally think I found a suitable band when I see two small bands looped together. I try to shoot it and it hardly flies. Q and M are at the shopping center. I see them a few times, but they never see me before I hide. Eventually I run into my F who tells me its home time. I go with him, and as I am going home, C phones and asks for my English Essay. Dream ends.

      DOTA

I am in the DOTA universe from a 3rd person perspective. All the spells have no cool down, I control one character which keeps on changing.

Labyrinth is such a cool word
      You might find this interesting...

      Dicovery: Healing Environments
The labyrinth is a pattern whose meaning is expressed on both conscious and unconscious levels. Its shape, the circle, is a universal symbol of wholeness and unity. Its meandering path is a metaphor for the path of life. According to the psychologist Carl Jung, the labyrinth pattern is an archetypal image of the psyche. Walking the labyrinth path leads each of us to our own center.
Carl Jung was a student of dreams his entire life and based most of his later clinical work on dream study. He would treat his patients by studying their dreams and using them as material for therapy, insight, or emotional growth.

Anyway, its always cool to see classic dream signs like the labyrinth. Structured dreams always seem so much more real...
