      zaqwsx170's Workbook

      Hi everyone!

I'm back. I thought it would be good of me to have a place where I can make daily logs of my recall and progress, and get feedback from others, and maybe even provide it to others as well.

      My current level:
I can usually remember at least one dream per night, but my recall has been significantly hindered by spring allergies. Its getting better now though.

My next goal is to develop the ability to wake up in the middle of the night after dreams to record them. I use a voice recorder, rather than a notebook.

      Last night's dream:
I was in an electrified video game casino, with neon blue lights flooding the game floor. I was playing a Runescape-esque game where I was commanding a character to run through a dungeon on a map, with the added twist that the character had to go to the bathroom, and I was directing him there. It turned out the character actually represented a real person, and that the character/person couldn't go to the bathroom unless I commanded the character to wait in the bathroom for a prolonged period of time, rather than the usual video game "Complete Action" button.

....yeah. Not very much detail, but last night was the first night in a while that I've tried.

      Hoping to improve!

      My current training regime:

      1. Attempting dream recalls after I wake-up.
      2. Using affirmations to get myself to wake up after dreams in the middle of the night.
      3. Reality Checks: Doing a finger through hand and text-checking reality checks every time I walk through a door.

I actually had this fortunate experience a few weeks back where I spontaneously became lucid without a reality check and said, "Aha! Let me now test the efficacy of my text-checking reality check in determining whether I'm in a dream!"

I found that with checking, and re-checking, (and possibly re-re-checking) text, my observations agreed with previously mentioned figures on dreamviews that a double-check will show a change around 67% of the time, and a triple-check will show a change around 90% of the time.

      !!

So the night before yesterday, I had to get by on 4 hours of sleep to catch a flight, and the night after that... I recupterated? Excuses. I know I should try to find some way of having recall even when my sleep schedule gets off, but I have a lot of difficulty with it.

      Hey Zaq, welcome back!

Working on your recall and doing daily RCs sounds like a good plan. Congrats on your recent ld! Interesting observations about text checking, I actually haven't seen those stats.

      See you around!

      Hey, thanks for the welcome!

Hm. So I've been having some issues the past few nights with remembering dreams. I remembered one tonight, but it was just the last dream I had before waking up. I really want to get to the point where I can remember multiple dreams per night.

What I will try differently tonight:
-drinking a ton of water before bed.

I used to have this down... lol. My allergies are much better now, fortunately.

I was about to ask you if you have natural wakes during the night. Those usually occur at the end of REM periods and can be quite useful for recall. Pee water's one way to do it, or you can try to intend to wake up after each dream, the same way some people set the intent to wake up in the morning without the alarm clock. Mantras before bed like 'I wake up after each dream', 'I remember my dreams', etc. are also very useful.

Mantras used to be my panacea for dream recall and waking up after REM periods, but now... it doesn't seem to work as well. My allergies seem to have caused me a -15% energy drain. I'm good enough to work, exercise, read, write, etc., but it makes it much harder to wake up and voice record dreams in the middle of the night.

      But still. Hm.

So I drank a bunch of water last night, and I woke up around 5:30AM, and I remembered a dream about... spending an entire day by myself, then with Mitt Romney as I ate oatmeal chocolate chip cookies (and more details). But I woke up, recorded that dream, and then I couldn't get back to sleep.

That's always been my problem with waking up after dreams in the middle of the night - I have a terrible time going back to sleep.

      Tonight:
      -no water
-I will mantra-ify myself throughout the day, and post back with results tomorrow.

If you had gotten enough sleep, you may use this opportunity to do a wbtb - focus on lucid dreaming while trying to fall asleep. You may also try for a wild or ssild. Ssild cycles can help you fall asleep as well as have an ld.

Here is the link for SSILD:

Hey, thanks for the SSILD link! I've not seen that before.

I recalled a pretty lengthy dream last night, despite having gone to sleep at 4am. It strikes me that in literally every
dream I can recall, I go through a doorway and have the opportunity to do an RC and become lucid. SO I really
need to ingrain this door text-check RC into my head.

Hm. So I've been having a lot of trouble with just basic recall in the past few weeks, but if I push hard enough to remember things then I usually can.

I've gotten myself to a pretty good spot with the door reality checks - I think I missed maybe 2-3 doors out of 50-60 yesterday, and I haven't missed one yet today (though the day is still young...). The main issue is recall.

I tried SSILD last night: I went to bed at 12:00AM, and woke up at 2:34AM. I did the SSILD routine, then went back to sleep (I fortunately didn't have trouble with getting back to bed this time). I unfortunately don't recall any dreams, so I can't comment as to whether it worked or not.

I'm thinking that I'll start taking an allegra/claritin/zyrtec before bed each night.

      ALllllll right.

Thanks to me getting some prescription allergy medicines, I actually finally remembered a dream yesterday.

Hm. In my dream, I walked through a door into a high-tech glass building, but didn't do a reality check while doing it. Merde!

Remembered another today. It was actually one very long yet coherent dream spread out along different dream periods. I've actually beenpretty good about reality checks, but I still don't think I've done one upon any of the times so far that I've gone through a door in a dream.

Haven't been waking up much during the night to do SSILD, but I will give it a shot tonight!

Great work with the door RCing. Happy to hear about the improvements in recall too!

      I CAN FINALLY THINK AGAIN!

So my allergies appear to be gone, after several months and moving to a new place.

Last night, I woke up and recalled that I had been walking through a research hospital with a few colleagues/friends, and remarking on a few posters displayed on the wall at how unrelated to anything medical most of the research seemed to be. I then magically found myself teleported to the garage of a famous scientist, where we conversed about one of the posters. He wasn't the most polite, but he was all right. I then started driving away, and somehow the scientist and his wife were walking in front of my car on the sidewalk, impossibly. There was also a yard sign placed randomly that listed both of their names and cell phone numbers.

Much, much clearer recall than I've had in months. I think I feel much better now. Let's see what tonight brings...

I didn't succeed the past 2 nights. I think it's just that on the night when it worked, I had been consistently waking up at 10:00 AM for the past few days. I'm now trying to shift back to an earlier wake-up time (9 yesterday, 8 today, 7 tomorrow), and I always noticed that maintaining a consistent sleep schedule gives me much better recall.

      Currently hydrating...

I drank a ton of water, and woke up at 5AM and recalled a long segment of a dream. Yay.

I had trouble going back to sleep though, and woke up feeling groggy at 7:15AM. Hm.

      I AM BACK!

To help me wake up in the middle of the night to remember my dreams, I wrote a program that you give times to, and then my computer will play a loud 5-10 second vacuum noise at those times and automatically shut off. This is nice, because:

      a) I can't automatically shut off an alarm and forget about it, the way I usually do.
      b) It doesnt require me to get up and risk forgetting about my dreams by getting up to turn off an alarm.

      So my approach is:
      1. Be woken up by the auto-computer vacuum noise.
      2. Let it wake me up, and do my best to recall the dreams for as long as I need while sitting completely still.
      3. Once I am ready, I reach over and pick up my phone to voice record the dreams.

I suppose in some way this is sort of a crutch, as some people are capable of doing this automatically. But I prefer to consider this a training wheel than a crutch.

That's a great idea! I've seen people talking about inducing lds similarly by using auto-snooze app/timer on their phones.

I have also tried it at some point, though my interest waned in about a day. Maybe it's time I give it another try too.
