      Hello!♥ Fake dream sign..?

I'm new here~ I'm excited and trying to be on my way to lucid dreams!
I just had to ask about something that keeps happening.
I'm familiar with dream signs and reality checks, but it's happened twice already where I had a FAKE dream sign:
For example, last night. I dreamed of an endless shallow pool filled with endless water. Aside from the fact I know this is impossible, I stopped, and remembered a dream I had had before with this same exact setting. In the dream, I said: "Aha! This must be a dream sign!"
I didn't succeed in actually becoming lucid, but I figured out I was dreaming. This has happened before, with a very similar situation to the one described above, only with a certain friend of mine holding a toy train.

Only, here's the catch: Those things aren't actually dream signs, because I don't recall ever dreaming about them before. I always acknowledge the fact I'm dreaming but can't get higher? Is it because the dream signs are fake..?

I don't think its not so much as the dream signs are fake, as it is just not "clicking' with you that you're in a dream and lucid. Has this been happening a lot frequently? Keep doing what the site suggests and try out techniques to see if you get better results. I can see you are getting very, very close. Keep a dream journal and try to write in it as much as you can after every dream. I had a few dreams like that where I said "Oh, this is a dream." But it never clicked with me per say that I was dreaming.

Have you ever been lucid before? Also don't let this discourage you. ^_^
Lucid dreaming takes three things: Patience, practice, and perseverance.

Nice stuff, you did have a lucid if you realised you were dreaming, well done! Also I wouldn't say it is a fake dream sign anything in a dream which pops up now and again is considered a dream sign!

It's very common for people to have dreams about becoming lucid just before the real thing starts to happen. The dream signs may have been fake, but it's definitely a good thing that you're dreaming about dream signs.

It's hard to tell from what you wrote, but you may have actually been lucid. Lucidity just means that you're aware it's a dream while you're in it. But you sound convinced it wasn't real lucidity - so it may have been like the fake dream signs - just dreaming that you knew you were dreaming. If it wasn't accompanied by a burst of excitement and the knowledge that you can now to some extent control your own actions then it wasn't really lucidity.

Yeah, I usually just get to the "Wait...Oh snap! That's a dream sign! Okay, I'm dreaming." Which is something I never say in real life. But I don't fully believe it, so it's just like, I acknowledge I'm dreaming and then... forget.
The reason I said the dream signs were fake is because I have never seen or thought of, let alone dreamed about those things before. In the dream, I'm essentially having fake memories.

The one dream in particular, about the endless pool: I really was almost there. At 2 points in the dream, I said "I'm dreaming". I had forgotten that until today! And the first time I actually had changed something, I think. I was in the back of a car, it was going along some wicked bumps, and I made the outside of the car get all scary. Ooooh. I am very excited
