      Lucid last night

Hi, this is my first post everyone so hello and I'll give you the background on my interest in the subject.

Over a year ago I had my first lucid dream without really knowing what it was. I remember I was on a bus with my girlfriends son and suddenly thought 'Am I dreaming?'. Even though I knew nothing on the subject I tried to put my fist through the back of the seat I was on and it went through. I realised I was dreaming, got really excited and ... woke up.

This incident made me interested and I wanted to find out more and I discovered lucid dreaming. I started to read a little on the subject but didn't get far and the only other experience I had was a terrifying false awakening where I couldn't see or hear properly and was convinced I was dying. Anyway I had other things going on in my life and so exploring lucid dream was put on the shelf.

Then, a month or two ago I started looking into it again. I googled lucid dreaming and found this site, I bought some books on the subject and I began to keep a dream diary.

I was so interested in the subject and was recording dreams in my diary whenever I could but I kept having periods up to five days where I was remembering nothing and this was getting me frustrated. I had read that I needed to be remembering at least one dream every night in order to progress and I just could see it happening. My interest was starting to wane as I thought I'd hit a brick wall.

Then, last night happened! I've been feeling off for a few days and I had to leave work early as I was shattered. I got back home and passed out on the couch all afternoon.
I woke up around six and had a normal evening still feeling a bit rough and went to bed at my normal time, then it began.
I woke up three times, the last time being half past two, and each time I clearly remembered the previous dream. Not only that but the last one had been lucid!

I won't go into all the details but quite a bit into the last dream I woke up and couldn't move. 'Right' I thought 'I've read about this, it's just sleep paralysis and it'll go in a minute or so'. It was then that I noticed a spider in the room that was the size of a dog! I quickly realised I was still dreaming and started to wake myself up in panic but I only got halfway before thinking 'Hang on, I'm lucid in a dream, this is what I've been trying for!' so I stopped myself waking up and changed the scene by spinning. I did a bit of low flying and was colouring underneath me in red and black as I went, I walked around a town square at night wondering what to do and I met a girl and ...

Well, I was lucid probably about five or ten minutes before my dream fooled me into forgetting I was dreaming but I remember doing reality checks by looking at my hands and my watch. I also remember trying not to get too excited so I didn't wake up.

I'm so glad I did research on the subject. In the one dream I remembered about sleep paralysis, false awakenings, reality checks, staying calm and spinning.
This has really got me thinking I have a chance now and it's got me very interested again.

So, hello to everyone and if anyone has any comments or advice then please feel free to add them.

      to DV, xrayspecs!

Awesome job on your first lucid! It's important to keep in mind that every night of recording dreams is progress!

I haven't worked out my dream signs yet but yes, insects seem to crop up a lot. As do walls which I have to climb over, threatening animals (usually small ones) and having to fix things. I'll have to work out a proper list for myself.
I'm a bit disappointed again as I didn't remember any dreams last night.

Another thing you can try, is cutting yourself off from dreams automatically. I did this just this morning, hoping for a lucid dream tonight, but I set my alarm for 6 hours7 mins (enough time to fall asleep) when I was so rudely awakened, I remembered the purpose, and when I tried to remember my dream, I could! I got like 2 sentences of info from it. Pretty good since it was my first night. Just don't stress yourself. If 2-3 a night seems to hard, start with one. Even remembering 1 detail, is better than nothing. Baby steps bro.
