Along with doing an actual reality check (nose-plug, finger-through-palm, etc), it helps to observe everything around you. Looking for anything unusual or strange, and basically just increasing your awareness levels for that particular moment, can help. When you're dreaming, you're not usually aware enough to catch on that you're dreaming, so you have to work on awareness in real life. That way it'll transfer to your dreams. The trick's not to do mindless RCs.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Yeah, doing a RC and not really considering the fact that you could be dreaming. If you don't do this, you'll end up doing RCs in the dream without becoming lucid.

I believe being aware is a better reality check than that. And less noticeable. Just whenever you notice yourself drifting off, look around and see if everything makes sense. And if somethings a lil off try a RC. Thats what i do. I get loads of LD's usually. And puffin, i like ur style of ranking your lucidity and vividness in ur dreams. I was thinking of useing it or something like it for myself.
Peter piper picked your pecker.... wait that's not right.
