      Hi, welcome to Dreamviews!

Dream signs are pretty much useless if you're not aware enough to recognize them. Practice stopping what you're doing and being skeptical about whether or not you're dreaming (because you never suspect this in a dream), and it'll soon carry over into your dreams. You can become lucid just from this (99% of lucids are from sudden awareness, not triggered by dream signs or reality checks).

Dream signs and reality checks ARE useful though; they can be used as a confirmation that you're dreaming, eg. looking for a dream sign or plugging your nose and trying to breathe through it. Reality check at least once every day so you don't forget what reality checks there are and how to do them.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

If you can get yourself to question what's going on when you see something "historical" you can use that. As puffin said, try to get into the practice of taking a moment to really stop and look around and see if what's going on makes sense... really makes sense. Ask yourself things like "Where am I?" "What am I doing?" "How did I get here?" and so forth. If the answers make sense, you're likely awake, but if they're strange or you don't know the answer then it's possible you're dreaming.

If you are finding that you're seeing a lot of historical places and/or events, then by all means work towards getting yourself to think, "The next time I see [Ancient Rome, Medieval England, etc], I will know I'm dreaming." It's good that you're noticing patterns, so you're headed in the right direction! Let us know if there's anything else we can do to help.

      Welcome to DV!
