      Good morning, world.

Hey all, long time reader, first time poster.

I've been trying to LD for awhile now with next to no success. The closest I've had was a couple of times when I would become lucid and simply wake up from excitement. I kept a dream journal back in the spring semester (I'm a sophomore in college) but kind of got discouraged, I guess and stopped for the summer. I've dug it back up now and am working on my dream recall. Hoping for the best!

I did have a quick question though. I wanted to try doing a DEILD, and I understand you need to lie as still as possible, keeping your body still so as to drift back off and whatnot. However I have a hard time being aware of when I wake after REM periods, so I thought I'd try setting an alarm or something so as to hopefully be a little more aware, but then I have to go through the trouble of dismissing the alarm and getting comfortable again and I feel like that'd potentially mess up the DEILD. Do you guys have any suggestions for a way to wake up that would still allow me to lie still, so as to fall back asleep?

      Thanks for your support guys.

      Hi Pipedream, welcome to Dreamviews!
You've actually already had a few lucids; it doesn't matter how long they are, they still count.

      As for the DEILDing...
For me, DEILDing is easier when I wake up from a lucid dream, so I don't have to catch myself when I wake up like I do after a normal dream. After all, in a lucid, I know when I'm going to wake up because I can see and feel the dream ending. To get into the habit of staying still after you wake up, stop yourself as soon as you can and relax. Even if you move around a lot at first before catching yourself, it'll eventually become less and less. You'll learn to stay still after each waking period.

Another DEILDing tip: If you keep your mind in the dream and continue to imagine touch, sight, smell, and other sensations from it, it helps trick your brain into thinking you're still asleep and dreaming. It works great for me.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

      Hey Puffin,

Thanks a lot for the prompt reply! Maybe DEILDing isn't for me. I'm not super knowledgeable about LD techniques, do you know one that might be a good starter?

      Thanks

Definitely try a combination of MILD/DILD, both are pretty easy.
