Hi new guy in 30s starting to practice but failing

      Hi all

I just started getting into lucid dreaming this last week.. I would love to lucid dream
but it doesn't seem to be happening. From what i've read, remembering your dreams is an important part of lucid dreaming.

But i haven't really remembered any of my dreams. When i wake up, i feel good like i had a good night sleep and possibly like i had a goood dream but when i wake up i can't recall anything.

The only dream i've remembered this last week was an alarm clock dream where there was this annoying beeeep from the alarm clock and all of my family were trying to turn it off but it was difficult. Turns out the alarm clock in the real world had some influence in me having some dream cause i woke up and the alarm was ringing. BEEEEEP.

So, so far, to start in my journey toward Lucid dreaming, i've treid learning how to remember my dreams, I even got a journal to start writing my dreams. But problem is i can't remember nothing when i wake up. So i don't know if i even had dreams.

Also, the last 2 days before going to bed i started saying to my self "I will lucid dream" several times. and also pinching myself for reality checks..and while having closed eyes, focusing on something i would like to dream about.

But so far, i've had nothing. The good thing is I've had good sleep

      Hello. Welcome.
How much time is since you started ? It takes time for you get some good recall, you need to keep practicing.
Don't use the "I will lucid dream", just use something like "I lucid dream", just to set your intent to lucid dream, not an obligation.
The pinching yourself reality check is a almost complete failure. Don't use it, your brain can easily make you feel pain in dream; instead, use the nose pinch reality check (check the list in the link), finger counting, etc.
You had dreams, you just need recall, keep practicing it.

Don't feel discouraged! It's only been a week!

I did not have a lucid until about a month of practice when I finally realized: I'm stressing it too much. It's okay to think about lucid dreaming a lot (daydreaming about LDing occupies most of my waking thoughts), but your problem is you're doing too many techniques! It seems like you're trying to MILD (using the mantra "I will lucid dream") and trying to incubate (focusing on what you want to dream about). These are really hard techniques to combine right away, I would back away from incubation for a while. Also you need a better reality check! Try the nose pinch technique (holding your nose and trying to breathe while its plugged; if you're dreaming you'll be able to breathe) and looking at your hands. Count your fingers, see if they're all normal, and try pushing one hand through the other.

Concerning your inability to remember dreams, it takes some practice. What really helped me is concentrating on the mantra "I remember my dreams." repeat it over and over in your head until you fall asleep. Try not to think of any other thoughts while repeating it. When you wake up, try to stay as still as possible and focus on any fragments you have, other details will come with it!

Now there are two roads you should take at this point: either MILD or DILD. Learn your method and apply it. Doing some strange mess of things won't do you any good. If you choose MILDing, change your mantra to "I lucid dream." Practice pushing out all excess thoughts and watch the images behind your eyelids (all the random colors and weird shapes) transform. You'll know when you've achieved true concentration when the shapes begin to take on dimension. All this while repeating "I lucid dream." For DILDing, go check out Puffin's DILD guide.

Immerse yourself in the subject, and don't stress it too much. Recall isn't crucial, but it's very beneficial. If you have a lucid dream, you'll most likely remember it, since its so exciting and you'll be wide awake when you wake up! Good luck!

When I first started I used that mantra and I remembered three dreams the first night. Make sure you write down your dream as soon as you wake up from it because you will more than likely forget most if not all of it by morning. If you don't want to write down an entire story at 2:00am, just writing keywords should be just as helpful. In fact, that's how I usually remember the beginning of my dreams (I usually remember them in reverse).

So guys, i went to sleep last night. Did my preparation that "I remmber my dreams". When i woke up, i tried to remember but there was nothing i could remember. But at the same time, for some reason, i felt like i had a bunch of things happening in my dream even though i don't remember any of it. hehehe. that's funny.

I wonder if the fact that you're forgetful in real life, has some influence in whether or not you can remember your dreams. I forget things easy, so in real life i always have to have a notebook to write down my ideas, like what i want to do during the day etc.

I have a bad waking memory, but have a huge dream memory. Keep at it, once you remember your first good dream, feel excited! Your body will recognize that you want to remember your dreams and it only gets easier from there!
