      definition of the word lucid

Maybe a dumb question but I need some clarification on it. Is being lucid in a dream the same as being awake and conscious in the real physical world we inhabit when we are not asleep? What i think being lucid means as far as dreams goes is that you are awake, aware and conscious of your surrounding and what is going on around you just like a person is when he is awake during the day living in reality (ie. not in a dream). Am I correct? I don't think that I've ever had dreams like that, but I have had some really vivid and what seemed like real experiences when I sleep at night. Most of them really short. I can remember a lot of them but don't remember being aware that they were a dream while they were happening. I guess what I am asking is this: Is being lucid in a dream just like being awake during the day? Hope I am making sense.

"Lucid" is a term meaning conscious, having a clear mind, or aware. It's not necessarily used to just describe dreaming.

So basically, "lucid dreaming" is being aware that you're dreaming. It's caused by a sudden epiphany within the dream that usually goes like:
      "...Something's not right here..."
      "Wait..."
      "I'M DREAMING! OH MY GOSH!"

Being lucid in a dream's like being conscious in waking life. To some extent
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.
