While I do not have been looking up the things you're talking about (because frankly I don't need them personally), I do understand the point you make when you say you think that remembering and controlling your dreams will lead to an even fuller and happier life...
That's certainly what happened to me because before this I used to think sleeping was a waste of time, while actually there's a whole world hidden in our head waiting to be explored!
Anyways, on to your problem. Remembering dreams is not really that hard. I noticed, just by talking about mine to my girlfriend, her recall has gone up. It seems that the brain, as soon as it is confronted with enough interest in the dreams that happen every night, will automatically start paying more attention to them. With as a result, better recall, and the best part: overall increase in vividness (this is ofcourse personal so don't take my word that it's going to happen to you too).
Autosuggestion might be a powerful tool. When you go to bed, say to yourself (in your head or out loud, don't think it matters) that you want to remember your dream when you wake up. Keep repeating this mantra to yourself, and mean it. It helps having a clear mind when doing this, and if possible, make it your last thought before you fall asleep. Also, when waking up, move as little as possible and take a few minutes thinking about what you've dreamt. It can be that at first you won't remember a thing, as you've said is the case, but I have noticed that suddenly one thought jumps through your mind and then it's possible to bring alot of it back. Just keep out the things that are going to happen in the day ahead of you, don't think of them yet, try keeping your mind clear and remember...
If at first it's only a little bit, don't despair Your brain will grow accustomed to this and you'll see that soon you'll remember more and more...
Just my 2 cents :p
