      Smile Hi

I hope I am doing this thread thing right. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to use this button or another. I don't write much on the boards. I'm quite new and just registered today but I have been kinda checkin' out your dream diaries. I am really excited about all this. I had lucid dreams in the past but didn't really know where they came from or why. I never felt like I had much control and it only happened a few times. I never knew that you could actually bring them about and do so much with them.

I had my first controlled dream (one which I was trying to make happen) the other day. It was funny. I was so excited that it lasted about five seconds since I was jumping up and down in the dream saying "Yay, I'm in my dream!!! I'm aware" or something very similar. Then boom! I was awake. I said a few choice words upon waking.

Well, anywho, nice to meet you guys!

Hi and welcome to the forums! Congrats on your first lucid dream and they will get longer as you have more. The most important thing when lucid is to remain calm and not go crazy, sort of like you just did, so the dream doesn't fade. To increase your chances of getting lucid you will want to read up on the induction techniques and keep a dream journal, or as you called it, a "dream diary." Also, read up on reality checks which you use to check if you are in a dream or not. Some of these are plugging your nose and trying to breathe in (if you can, you're dreaming!), checking your hands (any extra/missing fingers) and looking at text (if it's all jumbled, it's most likely a dream). Good luck and don't give up!

Congratulations on your first lucid dream. Hopefully this is the first of many. I'm sure you already have a long list of fun stuff to try!

Short but nice. This is so common (even the choice words). Keep up the good work!

Thanks everyone! I actually have a book on this that I am reading. Can't remember the title at the moment, but it does mention many of the things you guys talk about. I have a D on my hand to keep questioning myself if its a dream.
