Dearest Dreamers,
So THIS is where you've been hiding!! I've been looking for a place just like this for over 10 years.
Being my first post, I want to thank you for creating such a postive, creative, and understanding community. It is so refreshing to see a group of people helping eachother reach for a common goal. Kudos
I first became interested in Lucid Dreaming in Middle School. I kept a dream journal for several months, annoyed my parents to no end by flicking the lights on and off to RC, and managed to become lucid a handful of times (though never for more than 15 seconds or so). I was very determined, but the lack of information combined with a lack of support led to some frustration. With noone to talk to about Lucid Dreaming, I eventually abandoned my quest and put my dream journal away.
Fast forward to last week. My dream recall is non-existent, and it's been years since I've even thought about lucid dreams. In casual conversation my friend mentions how cool it would be if she could manipulate her dreams. I mentioned my earlier efforts at lucid dreaming, and the wheels started to turn in my mind... After doing some research I luckily stumbled upon Dream Views. Since then I have visited here daily. I've committed most of the tutorials to memory, and read countless forum posts to absorb as much knowledge as I can.
The desire to lucid dream has once again started to burn, but this time I am armed with everything I need thanks to you all! A new Dream Journal, a commitment to better sleep, the much improved nose-pinch RC, and the support of thousands of like minded people on this site.

Which brings us to now, and I am thrilled to report that last night I experienced my FIRST CONTROLLED LUCID DREAM! (DILD) It did not dissapoint.
The moment I became lucid, my first instinct was to take flight and speed away. Immediately I felt the dream slipping away from me - and remembered some advice I found on these forums. 'Remain calm, Look at your hands closely... analyze every hair, and every line... repeat out loud to increase clarity, THEN slowly take in your surroundings'. And so I did.
Rather than try to bite more than I could chew, I marveled at the feel of a familiar chair; the creaking sound of a familiar door opening. Remaining in control, I tried to spice things up and used "the force" to pick up a chair and crush it into the size of a baseball. Then onto do the same with a treadmill. Success! I then walked upstairs to find a vicious dog barking, but remained calm and willed it to turn into a sweet brown lab. As I step outside the front door my alarm clock goes off, and it's time for work... Quite a bummer, but the few lucid minutes were all I had hoped they would be!
Please forgive the LONG first post, but there was no other way for me to describe just how helpful you all have been. I can't thank you enough
-Joe
