      I'm oblivious during dreams

How do I become lucid when I'm so oblivious during my dreams? I know about reality checks and dreamsigns and everything, but it's like I barely think during my dreams. No matter how strange the situation, it never even crosses my mind that I might be dreaming. I've tried WILD instead, but I can never get into a comfortable position for that.

It's perfectly normal in dreams so don't bash yourself about it. The reason Y it's so difficult to be aware it's unreal is the absence of continuous waking memory, most people think it's logic that is absent but actually it's the memory of your waking life. There is the same logic and consciousness in dreams. To recognize and compare what is weird or unreal in a dream you'd need a reference with your waking life but like I said that reference point is absent or limited when we dream so you cannot know what is weird and what isn't it just is. One way to overcome this is to take vit B complex pills like a couple of hours or more before sleep and it does help in linking what you see in the dream with waking memory but it does not always work. You could also try dream reentry where you wake up after a dream but go back to sleep thinking of the previous dream you had and hopefully dream the same dream and because it's short term memory it may make it through the next dream and you can remember you had it as a dream and become suspicious. Another way is to purposely attach a memory of something with an object like a dreamsign, that memory is the benchmark that you are not dreaming so any change about the object may arouse a comparing response to kick in and you become suspicious. An example that worked very well for me is the light bulb check..I make sure when I'm not dreaming the lights are in working condition so when any lights fail I will have to check if it's a dream or not and they have failed in reality and I did the watch check and it happaned during a WBTB while using tha bathroom and the memory of it made it through the next dream and I was lucid because of a faulty bedroom light.

Yeah, I think it has a lot to do with the state of your mind when you go to sleep / enter dreams.

What are you thinking about when you're going to sleep?

Sometimes I just try to repeat "this is a dream" over and over while going to sleep, when i want to ensure lucidity.

I'll try the vitamin B thing soon. I've tried the object thing, but it doesn't seem to work.
I don't usually think about anything in particular, but I'll try repeating that. The times that I have, in my dream, I heard a voice saying "This is a dream." My dreamself replied, "Yeah, I agree," and then went about her business without realizing what the voice had said.

I just remembered that back in sixth grade, I decided to memorize all of the capital cities of European countries for no reason. I decided to record myself saying them and listen to the recording every single moment that I could. It worked really well for getting them ingrained into my head. I'm going to try that with "I'm dreaming" or something of that sort and see how it works. I'll let you guys know if it helps!

That's because the mind is unable to link with any waking memory connected with "This is a dream". Basically you have amnesia in a dream but there are are times where I can remember a place I had dreamt before when I see it in a dream or walk past a lighting shop and be interested in it because my hobby is experimenting with lighting in real life. And then there are times where I walk past a bowling center and walk away from it like I was not interested but I bowl my heart out in real life. I read on Biloba pills that is said to enhance memory but those are for old people and not much effect on young people plus it has some nasty side effects.

I am dealing with the same issue! Oblivious to the obvious. I can be swimming with sharks, running away in an Asian forest, training in a military camp, or even sleeping in a church and not think anything of it. I find it frustrating in the morning that I wouldn't have become aware of such things. But I also think of it like this, I have dreamt the same way for 28 years, so why now, should I expect it to change overnight.

I have seen someone switching on a light bulb with some kind of cigarette lighter, which produced only a blue electrical spark instead of a flame, and made the light bulb flicker like in flame. And I remember staring at that flcikering light for quite some time, asking myself how he did that, not realizing I am dreaming. This seams quite common. I guess you have to train youself to do a reality check, everytime you see something strange or doing something you repeat often in real life an hope, you will adept to this in your dreams.

Yes it will work that way but a baseline has to be set before it will work IMO. That being a test of lights in your own house that they worked fine when you were not dreaming and that is the waking memory that has to connect with your dream self when you see lights fail in the dream.
