Smile Hello DV / My First & Only Lucid Dream

      Hello Dream Views,

Just thought I’d do the traditional newbie thing I tell you a bit of my story. Knew very little about Lucid Dreaming before I discovered Dream Views, and cared even little for them as well. I’m afraid to say I jumped on the dream fandom bandwagon after recently watching ‘Inception’ for the first time (I’ve no doubt that has some posters rolling their eyes ) and loved the whole concept of being aware in ones dream and having the ability to control the world of it.
It’s only now, that I’ve researched Lucid Dreams and learnt more about them, do I now realise that once, many years ago now, I had a Lucid Dream myself.
I have remembered this dream for years, as vividly as it was the night I had it. The subject of the dream has come up in conversation with other people in the past down the years with their general reaction being quite intrigued that I was aware I was dreaming and was able to control it. At the time I thought nothing more of it than some random occurrence, that wasn’t possible to re-create. It’s only now I realise it can be boxed and labelled as a Lucid Dream.

Probably more one for the DJ section but the Dream was that I was in a tiled room that was slowly filling up with water. I was panicking looking for an escape route out of the room but could find none. As the water rose more and more I thought, “if I can’t find the way out, then I need to find how I got in here in the first place?” It was then that it dawned on me I never got into the room to begin with, I was currently having a dream! Amazingly the shock didn’t wake me up. And as the water rose more and more I said to myself “I’m going to wake myself up”, but I couldn’t open my eyes! I could actually feel the skin of my eye lids of my real body straining to open but I couldn’t open them! As the water nearly reached the top, I thought, if I can’t wake up, maybe I can change the dream to another room, without water. Sure enough this did the trick. I was now in a dark, similar sized room with no water. But then the walls and ceiling started to close in! I’d gone from nearly drowning to about to be squished. So I thought “right, not a room, think of a safe place”. What appeared was the safest place of all, home. Outside my house was my bike I rode when I was younger. “Why not?” I thought, riding it down my drive way, I crashed through a fence at the side and was falling down a cliff face. I swung my body around to perfectly land on my feet at the bottom. As I looked up in front of me there was a bear, running out of a cave in front of me to attack me. I turned to run and thought “so far I’ve nearly been killed by drowning, flattened and now mauled to death by a bear”. It was then I thought stuff it, if I’m in a dream I can’t die, I’ll just wake up. I turned and faced the bear and as it leapt claws first and snarling, I too leapt at it. The result waking up, sitting upright in bed.

This was my first and only Lucid Dream, to my memory. Now that I know what they are...I want more!!
As it happens, ever since, I have discovered this site a few nights ago, I have down the whole “telling yourself you’ll dream and remember your dream” before you go to bed. And have kept a Dream Journal, by my bed side that I update on the computer the day after. Fantastically the results have been a dream, be it non-lucid, every night.

The hardest challenge for me is just sleeping long enough to have a dream. It takes me until 2am to go to sleep. And I usually wake up during the night 2 or 3 times anyway!

If you’ve been patient enough to read this, thank you very much.

Congratulations, and welcome. Even though you only had 1 LD, it seemed to be quite a stable one, so you should have a bit of potential. It is important to get enough sleep. I would suggest going to bed at 11/12 and trying to induce Sleep Paralysis, as this surprisingly makes it easier to fall asleep. If you feel like you're getting nowhere then of course it's not really worth it, but try to go to bed earlier and you will start to get used to going to bed at that time. I used to only be able to fall asleep at about 1am but since I've been more interested in Lucid dreaming, I know go to bed almost 2 hours earlier every night, which not only increases my chances of having LD's, but also my awareness in waking life. But there's tons of tutorials and tips on here so you can find which one suits you best, hope you find what you're looking for.

Cheers Peetee. Took your advice and had an early night. Tried the whole sleep paralysis thing. Not sure if I was doing it right, I started feeling quite anxious as I lay there still (I’m one of these people that will toss and turn again and again before I get to sleep).
Anyway, eventually when I did get to sleep I had a very vivid dream. Woke up, did the whole DJ thing, went back to sleep, had another; DJ; back to sleep then another. There three dreams range from all sorts which made it really interesting today going back and thinking about.

For a rare Saturday night for me, I’m not going out, so might take it as an opportunity to have another early night and get some more dreaming done.

Never have I actually looked forward to sleeping so much than as I have these past 4 nights. Just wanting to become Lucid now. I actually wake up in the mornings annoyed with myself when in my dream I couldn’t see something that was blatantly strange and become lucid from it.

Yeah, it can often help people that find they don't get enough sleep as it becomes more of an event rather than just "Something that happens".

      For your sleeping problem

Check out the deild Method, if your dream recall isnt bad it might help! I had one today when I woke up after a full nights sleep and then (without moving) continued laying still until I had a dream that was lucid.

Congrats on your LD, I just thought this was funny after my first LD I was the same way...

One thing I have been doing is trying to get as many chances at LDing in a night trying out FILD (Forum --> Lucid Dreaming -->Attaining Lucidity --> Induction Techniques -->Finger Induced Lucid Dream) I suggest checking it out
