Just had my first lucid dream

The hours before I went to bed I spent reading about lucid dreaming. I thought it was something I were going to try until read about looking in mirrors and how it would be extremely scary. I decided not to try lucid dreaming and went to bed. The next thing i remember is walking along a road. On each side of the road there was a large wall, about 6 meters tall. On the wall, slightly above the my head there were many mirrors along the wall. Every mirror was at the same height and there were about an meter between them.

For some reason I stopped and looked into one of the mirrors. I can't remember what I saw, but it was not scary. I realized that I were in a dream and I tried to move my body. I could move just about everything except my legs. My legs felt like they were tied together and I could not move them apart. I tried to push a finger from my left hand on to the palm of the right hand and it just went straight through.

Then I was sure that it was a dream, and I were in control. But from here on out I remember less detail, it was more like I decided what I was going to do and it happened. It wasn't like a video game, I had less direct control then that. I decided I wanted to try to drive my motorcycle and see if it is as much fun as in the real world.

I walked along the wall until I came to my house, the motorcycle parked in the driveway. While I was walking towards the motorcycle I noticed a big brown banana standing on the other side of the road, watching me. The banana was about the same size as me. It didn't have legs but it still stood like a human. It had a face that looked like it was judging me for something I have done.

I proceeded to walk towards the motorcycle. I got on it and looked down on the key, I twisted it and looked up again. The brown banana thing stood about an meter in front of the motorcycle, looking directly at me. For some reason I weren't scared, startled or creped out about this. I find this weird because I get very easily scared/startled while playing scary computer games.

Anyways, since I wasn't scared I proceeded to push the start button. It came some noises from the engine but it didn't start. I remembered reading that light switches often did not work and that maybe it would be the same for this, but after a few tries the engine started. I looked up on the banana and it seemed more scared then judging like it was originally.

I set the motorcycle to the first gear and set of slowly. The banana were still in the way, but I still knew that this was a dream so I tried zapping him with lightning or making him float away. While I was trying this the banana looked like it was disappointed and walked away. I drove of and the first thing I noticed was that the speedometer didn't work. It showed that I was going 90km/h in first gear while it looked and felt like I was going about 20km/h.

I kicked it into second gear, full throttle up the hill next to my house. Everything looked like it should and there were no people or cars anywhere. I kept speeding up and got to the top of the hill. I then taught to myself that this was more like a video game then real life and that it wasn't very fun. I stopped the motorcycle and taught about something else to do.

I started jumping and it felt like I was on an trampoline. The world bent beneath me, I jumped higher and higher. It was a little fun in the beginning but I still weren't in direct control. Now it was more like a cut scene in a video game than a video game. I realized this, and woke up.

Does anyone have any tips on how to stay in direct control, like I was in the begging? Also, does the big brown banana mean anything or is it only a random part of my imagination?

tl;dr: Had lucid dream, didn't have full control. How do I get full control?

Congratulations on your first lucid! That was a very long lucid for a first timer, also the control was very good. Full control takes practice. Technically we should be able to do anything from the start, but all the rules we learn from real life keeps interrupting. You know you can't fly in real life, so therefore it's hard in a dream to believe you can. Control comes with practice, belief and time.

Some people might claim certain random objects in dreams have a meaning, I know for a fact that having nightmares alot, tells us that we're not happy with something in real life. I personally don't believe that everything in dreams has a meaning, they appear for a meaning but the reason is way more simple than for example: "A brown banana indicates something's not right with one of your friends" etc. Although this is just me, and even though some belief is rather narrow-minded, it can open your mind to other things. Astral projections and such.

Read up on the forums and you'll learn tons of stuff If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask. Keep on dreaming!

Congratulations... that was a really long lucid dream... I hope that I will soon be able to remember such long dreams and become lucid in them as well.

Is this really considered a long lucid dream? It only felt like 1 or 2 minutes.

It was a long one for someone new. Most lucids don't last very long actually.
