      Lucid Dream Fears

      Hi guys,
The names Dan, i've not really done much Lucid dreaming due to some fears i have from past bad experiences, i'm hoping i can get over them and start learning properly!

      Heres the story...

About a year ago i was suffering from a cold and decided to take a remedy to unblock my nose.. Doing so would have consequences that would shape my fears of lucid dreaming..

I was fine through the day and went to bed as normal however 4 nights out of 5 taking this stuff i had bad experiences...

I would be dreaming as normal (non-lucid) when suddenly the whole room would start spinning, at this point i would become lucid, the first time i felt suprised but after that i recognized the spinning as the first sign of what was to come and i would conciously feel fear and try to end the dream (even the dream characters would react with suprise).

After the spinning and being sucked through some sort of vaccum thing i would have weird out of body experiences (feeling like i was being pulled out of my body) and paralysis etc, and i would be desperatly trying to fight these off in fear.

This happened one too many times and now i am fearful of lucid dreaming in case it triggers anything 'weird' like this (it has happened since when i have not been taking anything)...

If anyone knows why or how to avoid this i would really be glad to know!

      Thanks for your time!

Hi! Don't be afraid. There's nothing that can hurt you. If you know you're 100% safe, why let the fear take over you? I know it can be hard as it's very unpleasant, but I assure you that you're safe. I say explore it

      Hi, thank you for responding.

I think by joining this forum i have comitted myself to giving lucid dreaming another go, i was wondering if it was normal to have bad experiences like this one though? Or if this is what happens if you loose control of a lucid dream?

Not everyone has such experiences. We all react differently so you might be frightened by something I am not. You can overcome it though, so just tell yourself that

What do you mean exactly by losing control? If the dream collapses and you end up in your bed, then you might end up in Sleep Paralysis. If you lose control over the lucid and the dream itself starts to "turn" on you, then you're having a lucid nightmare. In most cases when your pulse begins to quicken, you wake up. Getting more familiar with your body and the different sensations might be something for you to try out.

Try meditating, getting used to the effects of SP when you're trying to WILD might be a step towards the right direction.

By loosing control i did mean 'when the dream turns on you'. SP really isn't a problem for me it's simply the experiences that i have had with it that have created this fear.

I will try meditating and tell myself that everything will be ok when i lucid dream, giving myself instructions before i sleep seems to work for me.

      Thanks for your advice

Ah okay. If the dream would change into a nightmare for any reason, then just wake yourself up You're probably still lucid, but not in total control. In time you will learn exactly how much power you've got in your dreams. When you realise you're the one creating the scary scenarios by being afraid they will appear, you can just change it all back with a snap of your fingers.

No problem! If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask.
