Dreams Don't Feel Real To Me

I am currently working on becoming lucid and made good progress recalling my dreams. Almost every day, I am able to remember what happened, sometimes I can recall more than 1 or 2 dreams.

I talked about dreaming with some of my friends and they all told me that they feel like it's the real thing when they dream. (I'm talking about regular, not lucid dreams here).

When I wake up in the morning and think about everything, it always feels like a movie. I don't have the feeling that I was part of the dream.

To illustrate what I mean: The other day, someone tried to kill me several times but it was in no way a nightmare.

      Any thoughts?

      Highly appreciated,
      Tom

Well it varies, sometimes you will have hyper-realistic dreams, and sometimes you'll have weird abstract dreams. When you're in a dream your mind is pretty fuzzy most of the time, someone trying to kill you isn't going to phase you much. It can depend on how vivid the dream is and what the dream plot is. You have very good recall though, that will help you greatly towards attaining lucidity. When you're lucid in a dream, it can feel like real life because of how vivid it is. Things have tastes and smell, and you can feel things. Just work on doing reality checks throughout the day and continue to work on dream recall, you'll get there.

      Also, welcome to the forum

Hi and welcome! Some people dream in 3rd person rather than 1st and some have more vivid dreams than others. Like Raphael said, if you get lucid you will be able to look around you and see how realistic it all is! If you tell yourself how real it is while in the dream, you will be able to know it when you wake up. The memory fades fast and you might not remember how real it was.

Also some dreams which at the surface seems to be harmless, can be real nightmares. It's more about the feelings rather than the actual scene you're in. Although when you're in a scary scene you will rile yourself up usually.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

maybe theyre dreams are more "normal" in a way so when they look back at them they think dreams are like real life. or they could have more vivid dreams, or a combination of the two.

Yes, some dreams are a lot more realistic then others. Last night I felt more alive in two of my dreams. It felt very real. While other dreams are more fuzzy and I don't remember as well, which makes them seem more like a movie.
Every passing minute is another chance to turn it all around.

Did I sign up for a paid subscription? This is almost like real-time support. Fantastic, guys!

Another thing is that my dreams are almost always possible. Very unlikely to happen, but physically possible. The only thing that felt like I was actually in that dream was when I dreamed of sleeping paralysis creeping in. (Probably horrified by the stories I've read here).

      Bottom-line:
      1. I have a good dream recall and therefore
      2. recognized my dream sign (odd places and people).

Okay, I will do reality checks. Anything else that I can do to speed up the progress?

I read so much great stuff about lucid dreams and can't wait to experience it myself.

      Thanks,
      Tom

There is a technique called "all day awareness", which I think would give you the quickest results. Here's a tutorial recently made by KingYoshi:

Obviously you'd work up to the point where you don't think about it so much, you don't have to go all day at first. If you take aside a few minutes throughout the day to practice it I think it'd be much more beneficial than simply doing a reality check.
