      WILD & Sleep Paralysis, help?

Hey guys, I'm sure you get these types of questions often but I'd like some advice on this.

Whenever I attempt to WILD, I will get to this point where I am hearing a crackling/windy sound in my ears. I will also begin to see blue colors swirling in my vision and my body will start to tingle and slowly become numb. I'm pretty sure this is hypnagogic hallucinations and sleep paralysis, right?

Here is the thing, when I get to this stage I get VERY excited. My heart starts to beat extremely fast and I am thinking "Wow, I'm so close to lucid dreaming! Just a little longer!". This quickly turns from excitement to pure fear. I can't explain it, but I get this panicky feeling and I need to force my eyes open.

When I force my eyes open, all the hallucinations stop and I am relieved, but also angry at myself for failing my WILD once again.

I'm sure a few of you guys have experienced something like this. What advice would you offer to get past this stage?

Stay relaxed and calm, that's really the key. Intense emotions, whether positive or negative, are generally bad for LDs. You said your heart was beating extremely fast, that was another hallucination so don't pay any attention to it. Go with the flow and don't be thinking too much about entering the LD, just allow the hypnotic images to form into something. Or you could be like me and VILD, which is where you visualize the dream around you enter it that way.

Wait, when I feel my heart beating fast that is also a hallucination?

Weird, but it does make sense.

It's just something you get over after repeated attempts. I still experience fear sometimes when I hit the vibrational stage (the crackling/static sound and heavy vibrations in the body). You can visualize an orb of white light surrounding yourself if that helps alleviate the fear. I create what Robert Monroe termed the "resonant energy baloon".

Yeah, hallucinations can seem very real, but your heart is actually slowing down during the first stages of sleep because there is less oxygen to pump through your blood. Once you enter the REM cycle, which is equated to dreaming, your heart rate and reparation will increase and become erratic.

If you're having problems relaxing just remember that you are totally safe, and nothing is going to harm you. The hallucinations are not real. They can actually be kind of fun once you learn how to control them

I like to think of this as your body being asleep, but without a dream to transition into. When you get close to this stage, start imagining the dream you would like to enter. It doesn't have to be a difficult or detailed visualization. You can just go with whatever imagery or memory comes to mind. Try to feel your body engaging with whatever you are imagining. Imagine sensations of movement, speed, and touch.

im guessing you are doing this at night before sleep? i had the same problems until i was taught how much easier it is to do it in the mornings after a good sleep. it should help you become more accustomed to the experience, although i am still to have a completely conscious seperation, i have never felt the same fear in the mornings

Actually, yeah. That is more than likely my problem. I attempt WILDs at night before sleep, even though I know I should be using WBTB or afternoon naps.

I'll try a WBTB and see if I get that same feeling of fear.

This is the EXACT thing that happens to me, blue lights, whooshing sound .

I tried to WILD like an hour ago, my body went numb, i had the whooshing sound, low blue swirly lights..... but then the whooshing sound subsided, and I'm like wtf....it was over, i just got back up because it felt pretty pointless laying there, i was still aware of my external surroundings the whole time.

I'm starting to think maybe i went only to stage 1 sleep.

Can anyone help me with this? Maybe i wasn't tired enough, and that was only a "wake-induced-lucid-nap" lol? I have been falling asleep rather late lately, 3a.m. to 5a.m. sometimes. Maybe that has something to do with it.

I have the same problem. I enter sleep paralysis but then I just lay there aware of my surroundings never entering a dream

This is the same thing that happens to me, at least I think it is. I believe I'm in sleep paralysis, I don't really have any hallucinations althought sometimes I see faint lights from the backs of my eyelids and my body is numb. At this point I try my best to just relax and let my body fall asleep, but at the same time it's hard to keep my concious awake. Does WILDing during the afternoon have to be a specific time? How do you know when your REM cycle is ready?

Same here, this convinced me to begin with smaller and easier things and then move up to WILD and master it.

Did you do as it says in the guide for a WILD and try to map your REM patterns? tonight im going to drink as much water as possible and see if i wake up around 5-6 hours later, if so thats the end of a REM cycle and the perfect time to attempt a WILD.

I get the same feeling.Every time I get close it's really exciting. But when it get to the point when my breathing starting to feel sluggish I can't help but panic.I've always had mild feelings of Claustrophobia,so the feeling of not being able to move is already a bit freaky, though bearable. That added with the perceived trouble breathing tend to stop me from being able to go through with it.I know there's literally no danger, but despite this it's still difficult.

I have that excited and panic feeling too. I think we should just chill out, get over it, and keep trying.
