New Member - Wondering How Long

Hello all, my name is smoothcriminal12, I am a new member who was just wondering, generally, how long does it take for someone to begin lucid dreaming on a daily basis? Is it the same for everyone or is it the type of thing that depends on the person?

I've also been wondering, when you are lucid dreaming, does it feel real? Can you feel your body? Can you see clear, etc? Do you still feel that you are in a bed or do you feel like you are actually in the dream itself? Can you touch, feel, taste, etc...

      Thanks

You can have a lucid dream as early as tonight To reach the state where you have consistent results may take a while. It depends how good you are at developing new habits. If you are dedicated and consistent, it shouldn't take long at all.

Lucid dreams feel just as real as real life. Sometimes they feel more real! You're senses feel normal, but are not limited by physical constraints. For example, you can see limitless distances, zoom your vision into microscopic levels, ect. The cool part about being lucid is you are aware that you are dreaming while you are still in the dream. You can have a critical dialog with yourself, saying, "Wow, this feels incredibly real." This makes the experience far more intense than just remembering a vivid, but nonlucid dream.

I remember reading in Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming that people practicing the MILD method with consistency and effort tend to start having lucid dreams at will (every night) after anywhere from three months to a few years. It depends entirely on the individual, as well as how much time and effort you want to spend on it.

Lucid dreams vary wildly. Some people report having ultra-realistic LD's when they first start. Many people, including myself, believe that dreams can seem more "real" than waking life in some cases. Sensations are often stronger. Others take more time to develop their dream clarity, but the general consensus on the matter is that with practice pretty much everyone can have clear lucid dreams. In a good quality lucid dream, it is essentially just like being in waking life, except that none of waking life rules apply. This is often accompanied by an intense feeling of freedom.

      Hi, welcome to Dreamviews!

You can have a lucid dream tonight if you set your mind on it, or any time after that. It depends on the person and their willingness to learn as much about LDing as they can - if you're very much dedicated to it, you can definitely have one every night with the right technique(s). The standard lucid dreams feels very real; you can see and feel your body, look at yourself in a mirror... You can also see things clearly, given there may be some slight distortion or change in between glances at an object, because dreams aren't perfect. I've only felt myself lying in bed one time out of many lucids, and that was after a WILD (wake induced lucid dream), which isn't an uncommon feeling. You just have to touch objects in the dream and forget about your real body.

I've touched many objects, walls, floors, and people (no awkwardness intended plz) in my lucid dreams, and they've all felt incredibly real. In one of my earlier LDs, I touched a brick wall and could see the texture almost perfectly, and felt the abrasiveness of the material on my hand. Then again, it depends on the dream - some dreams can be more realistic, clear, and easy to remember than others.

You can also hear, taste, and smell things. One's sense of taste in a lucid dream can be pretty bizarre sometimes - you might eat paper that tastes like strawberries (or something not as nice as that), or really tasty ice cream. If you expect something to taste a certain way, or something to happen in a certain way, it will - dreams operate on the beliefs and expectations of the dreamer. It's this principle that allows people to have large control over the aspects of their dream, from the way something tastes or smells to having special abilities.

AscendedSleeper noted that lucid dreams often come with a feeling of freedom, and this is true. Besides this, you can literally shout at the top of your lungs in a dream and not wake up, or disturb someone who's sleeping in the same house as you. You can fly without moving an inch in real life. There are practically no boundaries in a lucid dream.

If you have any questions feel free to ask!
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

When I'm having a lucid dream, I feel like I'm living inside my mind, browsing along.
