Exclamation Problem with Lucidity during nightmares.

Hey guys, I've been lucid dreaming for 2 weeks now, I've had about 6 LDs (no luck with WILD). My real query comes from my nightmare last night.

The nightmare was split into two parts. The first, the sky was blood red and the terrain jagged and bizarre, as if from another planet. The sky was filled with giant floating monsters similar to this (can't post links). One glided toward me and tried to eat me. Obviously given the state of mind during a nightmare this was a lot more terrifying. I became lucid towards the end using a nose-plug RC, but was unable to intervene, luckily by LDing the dream collapsed.

The 2nd nightmare then formed, here I was in a fight with a malformed figure, it being a nightmare it felt like I was punching through water. Realizing this absurdity I became lucid, and performed a nose-plug RC, I was perfectly aware at this point, and attempted to destroy the figure, but to no avail. The inability to do anything during my lucidity meant I slowly became less assured and the dream became far worse.

One other thing to note, my first LD was a nightmare, not including when I was younger and didn't grasp what lucidity was. In my first true LD I was running away from somebody, they got locked behind the door my bedroom, after that I became lucid, I decided to create a gun, this worked but upon firing it the bullets turned to water.

What am I missing in all these scenarios? I have clear understanding of my lucidity, yet each time the dream worsens due to the vividness I attain from lucidity. Annoyingly enough my most vivid dreams are nightmares, and they tend to be the majority of my dreams (6:1 ratio).

Before I learnt lucid dreaming I didn't remember my dreams, but now with my Dream Journal I'm dreaming almost every night and now those stream of nightmares are reappearing. So my question is how can I prevent nightmares, and what is behind my lack of ability to truly intervene.
