      Help please?

hi i just joined this site today and i am excited by all the talk and discussions going on, first, is the chat working or am i not doing something properly, when i click on it nothing happens. second, i have had a few lucid dreams, i realized this was possible when i was shot in my dream and did not feel any pain and did not wake up, i also flew in the same dream on purpose. what i am trying to find out is at the moment i am lucky to have a dream once or twice a month (that i can remember) is it possible realize your asleep and then create a dream or am i going ahead of myself and just need to make do with the dreams i get and try to turn become lucid in those dreams?

Hi and welcome to DV! The chat doesn't work for me when I use Internet Explorer. Try using FireFox instead. Also, you should up your recall before trying to focus too much on Lucid Dreaming, so start writing down your dreams and intend to remember them in the morning. Good luck!

I second Matte87's post. A dream journal is a must for everyone on here, no matter what they are doing. Before I started mine, I never dreamed. Now, I have 4 dreams a night. Start one.
Next thing you need to do is have a look around DV, look into stuff. Many methods on here require you to be able to recall some dreams a night before starting. But trust, tonight I would say you will have a dream. Look into each method, or ask for the best one for you. Give details on when you go to sleep, how you sleep, when you have to wake up, etc.
Then pick a method that suits you. Stick with that method. If after a week as a general rule, if it doesn't do anything at all, leave it.

The main methods are DILD, WILD, DEILD, WBTB and ADA. Thats my opinion, but some people may disagree. But to me, these are the main, central methods. There are loads more that branch out from these.

To summarize: Start a dream journal. If you can't do that, then you may as well cut your chances of L.Ding in half. Then, fish around and find a method that looks easy and simple for you. Then try it the best you can for a week. If nothing happens, try something else. If something does happen, well done.

I wish you luck, and welcome to DV.

If the chat isnt working when you click it go to the home page. In the first paragraph there should be a link to chatroom. Use that.

that isn't how dreams work, a normal person dreams throughout the night, you just don't remember them. dream journals are a big help as you train yourself to remember many dreams in one night. from that, you can learn about what triggers a lucid dream and recurring signs that can help you achieve a lucid dream.

chat works fine for me, I use firefox if that helps... :/

First night after joining the forms and trying to have a LD.

ok i spent hours on these forums yesterday, i even tried writing on a piece of paper "i will have a dream and i will remember"......

i could not recall my dreams but something was different, i cant describe it but it was the best sleep i have had in weeks. i felt as if i was dreaming and aware of it but i just could not remember the dream.

      ........

thanks for all the posts guys i will be trying this LDing as best i can, i have had a few before but i never knew it could be improved by training. i just had dreams and knew in the dream i was dreaming and then took control (got sht...hence my name and flew in the same dream.

Sounds like you'll be a natural if you can just increase that dream recall. I'm not in any way an expert at lucid dreaming, but I have kept a dream journal for almost 10 years now and the more I write in it (even just fragments, or a still image description) the more I seem to remember the next day.

Personally I think the key is giving dreams a priority in your brain. Maybe try repeating in your mind "I will remember my dreams" as you drift off to sleep. Then when you wake up try to just lay there for a few minutes and relax and try not to think about what you have to do that day. Usually when I do this a fragment will pop into my mind, and I'll be able to work backward and forward from that point and come up with details.

If you wake up several times during the night like I do, that's a good time to jot down notes. I tend to wake up after each dream, and when I don't think about it I'll just roll over and go back to sleep and often I won't remember anything at all about that dream in the morning.

      Good luck

That's a good way to put it
So if you don't acknowledge your dreams then your brain will not try to remember them. Giving even the slightest attention to a fragment of a dream will tell your brain that it needs to pay more attention next time ;D

Yup. You could have a dream journal and be a total natural, but without total dedication to the practice, nothing will come of it.

I know this. When I first started I was all "This is so cool, can't wait to go to sleep". I thought about it most of the day. My dreams spiked and they were great. Gradually over time, LDing has taken a back seat to exams and study, and my dreams have gone down.

This proves that a mind focused on LDing, and has it firmly on your mind, will have success faster than a mind that just knows about LDing.

Basically, full throttle, or no throttle when you start. Once you are accomplished, then it doesn't really need that much effort. It is like riding a bike.

I've been on and off actively LDing for a few years now, and even though I had recalled many dreams a night with a DJ it gradually falls back to where it was before you started when you stop. So yes and no - experience does help you achieve better results, but without a way to record your dreams, recall drops dramatically.. Which means you could forget you ever had a lucid dream.

again, thanks for your post. i am taking all comments on board and will take all suggestions and put in the effort to practice.

for some reason i get this strong feeling that lucid dreams could be my thing ever since my first LD (getting shot) it has always been on the back of my mind as i can still remember that specific dream as if it was last night that i had the dream.

would anyone know if it would be usefull to draw some pictures or write down some ideas for dreams before going to sleep?

i kind of have a goal here, when i was young i had a dream that shredder (from the turtles) was chasing me around out my back yard, this was so terrifying and i had the same dream 3 nights in a row except it wasnt the same, the same thing happend in the drem (he chased me round and round my shed) but it was as if each night the dream would continue from where it left off the night before.

my aim is to confront him and overcome a memory that is just as vivid as my first LD.

I've tried re-entering dreams like that, I used to try suggest/picture the scene before I went to sleep, but I'm guessing it didn't work for me because by the time I was in REM sleep hours later, new thoughts had come into my mind and were manifesting into a dream instead.

Later I realized that when I was a kid if I woke up in the middle of a dream I would go to sleep and start from where I left off. I think it's called WBTB, where you wake up in the middle of a dream, and you can go to sleep with thoughts of a different dream, and be lucid at the same time (DILD, or WILD). I've only done this a few times but I have never changed the dream... It's easier to work with a fresh dream but I'm pretty sure an old recurring dream/nightmare would work too

Basically, keep at it, through thick and thin. If you give up, make sure you have reason to. If somethings not working, don't give up on it straight away, but don't waste time on a method that is clearly failing you.
