Success on my first night trying!...well kind of

I wanted to start off by saying thank you to all of the very helpful posts I read on this forum as well as the sticky "Beginners Guide..." which I felt had everything I needed to know to get started.

I attempted my first try at lucid dreaming last night using the FILD technique that to my surprise worked right away for me. Upon waking up early in the morning I tried to keep my eyes closed, kept my hand under my pillow, and "played the piano" with my middle and index finger repeating " I will have a lucid dream...I will have a lucid dream" for what felt like a minute. After that minute I thought I would give the nose RC a try and to my surprise I was able to breath in.

Well let me tell you...what a super weird and amazing feeling when you realize for the first time that you are conscious in your dream. As expected, even after trying to remain calm, the feeling only lasted a couple seconds before I think my excitement overtook me and I just slipped back into my dream without feeling conscious. I have not read that yet. Looking through it seems most people wake back up after realizing but I kind of just slipped out of my "conscious" state and into a very weird dream. Is that unusual?

Anyway, just wanted to share my experiences with everyone and I will definitely continue this method as clearly it worked for me and maybe others who have failed using other techniques could give it a try.

      Thanks!

Hi and welcome! Wow, not alot of people succeed the first time they try, so congratulations! As for your question, you just lost lucidity and it happens yes. Make sure to stabilize the dream by doing a few Reality Checks which activates your senses, rubbing your hands for example.

Good luck in the future! If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask

Thank you Matte87. I will have to try to reinforce that next time since as soon as I did the first RC and realized I was in a dream I think I was just overwhelmed and completely lost the concept of trying to stay lucid. I will keep rubbing your hands in mind.

Good! Don't worry if you lose the first few dreams, we all do. The excitement will still be there but not like the first couple of times, and you'll be able to stay in the dream even though you get excited later on.

      nice job
this has motivated me to try FILD once again haha, I have a question, did you use an alarm to wake you up? and how many hours after sleep was it?
congrats on getting a quick LD, like Matte said, its alright if you lose the first few dreams quickly, its natural, but after a while you will get used to it
just keep working at it and you will get another lucid dream soon
      happy dreaming~

      Motivated me too

"What if you slept, and what if in your sleep you dreamed you went to heaven and there
you plucked a strange and beautiful flower, and what if when you awoke you had the flower in your hand? Ah,
      what then?"
