Some people do manage to go into from being awake, straight into a dream without even realizing it or having no signs that you're going to sleep. Most people enter SP first where you feel a number of different things. The first usually being a tingling or vibration throughout your body then a heavy weight over you. When you're trying to WBTB, just let your mind drift and don't focus on anything in particular.

Personally I do a mantra at night, repeating "I will have a lucid dream" and "I will do a reality check". Even if it has no real effect, if you truly believe it will help (as I do), it can add a placebo effect.

      Good luck!

Hello chaos and welcome to Dream Views! Well, obviously you will need to fall asleep before you can dream. Like caretaker pointed out, sometimes you may fall asleep without even realizing it. Are you trying to perform a WBTB WILD or are you just performing a WBTB to aide your DILD/MILD attempt? Repeating, "I will have a lucid dream," is performing a mantra. If you are simply trying to lucid dream without sleep paralysis/HI/HH, then you will want to try and fall asleep as you are repeating this mantra. You don't have to say it out loud, you can repeat it in your head as you go back to sleep. This will help increase your odds of obtaining lucidity in the following dreams.

A WILD is a bit different. During a WILD attempt you will be trying to enter the dream directly from the waking state. To do this, you will want to fall asleep while retaining consciousness. There are many techniques across the forum that can help aide you in your WILD attempts (if that is what you are going for). If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask.

all i did was to wbtb after 6 hours of sleep.. then i ate some chocolate and went back to sleep but i could not sleep for half an hour i kept telling my self that i will lucid dream but i still could not sleep so i just dozed off. once i woke up i realised that unusually i had a really long dream longer than usual but no lucid dreams...so i ahve decided instaeead 6 hours i will wake up after 4 hours of sleep and then i will write down my dream and go back to sleep by using the mild method ...any tips to offer.
PS i have tried binaural beats during the break and i could not even sleep because of it

That sounds like a good plan. Whenever I perform WBTBs, I also aim for the 4 hour mark. I wake up, write down my dream, and then immediately return to sleep. I think you spent too much time awake during your first attempt. That, paired with the fact you waited 6 hours, is likely what caused the trouble. Try to fall back to sleep with great confidence. Fall asleep knowing 100% that you will succeed in having a lucid dream. Expect to have a lucid dream and act is if you are a pro dreamer. It also may be a good idea to set multiple alarms. I like to space them about 2 hours apart. I generally set one for after 4 hours, then 6 hours, and finally 8 hours. That way I can increase my chances for becoming lucid. Just wake up, write down your dreams, and then return to sleep after each alarm. Good luck to you!

Well, if you are unable to remember any dreams, you can just go ahead and head back to sleep (performing your mantra or whatever technique you are using). It may take some time to build up your dream recall. It also helps to try and remember the dream in reverse order. Think to yourself, "What was I doing just before I woke up? What about right before that...and that...and that...etc." It really helps you remember what all happened. Just keep practicing and remember to stay as confident as possible. If you can't remember anything, don't get discouraged, just head back to sleep and give it another shot .

Today well I was not able to.remember my dreams after sleeping at 4 so I woke up at 5.40 luckily .. The I forced myself to sleep.but I think the reason why I wasn't able to lucid dream during the 4pm is because my mantra was " I will be awake when I dream" which is stupid ....but I have seen a dream pattern my dreams are long after 6 and I usually dream about ny life in school so I tell myself to remember that I am dreaming when I see my school friends but I does not work.however today I was dreaming about my fren asking me about lucid dream so was I anywhere close

Yeah, you are getting closer. Whenever the subject of lucid dreaming starts showing up in your dreams, you are doing something right. Just keep up your motivation and continue to practice. Soon one of these instances will trigger, "Wait a minute...could I be dreaming right now?" Then perform a RC to confirm. You are getting there just keep it going

What exactly is the problem you're having? ..or the question(s) you are asking.

Chaos, sometimes it just happens like that. Even more so with the first alarm then the later ones. The REM period lasts much longer as your sleep time progresses. That doesn't mean you will never be able to recall dreams right after the 4 hour mark, but sometimes they are less memorable/clear/etc. Once you get some good recall built up, it will be much easier for you to recall these earlier dreams. Just keep practicing and don't give up or get discouraged.

is it possible to ask myself questions in the dream such as ''What am i most afraid of'' or '' show me how i look like in 20 years'' and also how am i suppose to ask this must i close my eyes and say...plus what is your best way to ensure that the dream does not last for a short period of time other than not being too excited. Another question is is there such thing as dream-reality time difference such as an hour in a dream is equivalent to 1 minute of real life .In addition am i able to transfer my skills which i learn in the dream such as swimming to real life?

      In regard to improving recall:

Try over-sleeping, if you don't already. Go to bed early. The longer you sleep, the longer your REM cycle will be in the morning. I don't remember the statistics, but after 7-8 hour mark of sleep, you spend the majority of your time in REM sleep.

..and Regarding time.. It's all about how you perceive it.
Ive had dreams and Lucid Dreams where its literally felt like its been 6+ hours, and when I wake up and look at the clock, its only been an hour and 20min. ..and now on the opposite, ive the same thing but this time it felt like 10min, I wake up, and over an hour went by (even though when I did WBTD i was put into the dream, so no time lost)

No-one is really sure how/why, or even IF time is relevant in dreams, but personally, I dont think it is.

I mean, neurons and brain signals can send hundreds of thousands of pulses with a second. You can have thoughts, memories, etc all with a second. You are constantly using 5 senses... Im sure youve heard "Right before you die, your life flashes before your eyes" ... People say the see, feel, and experiences thousands of thoughts, memories, etc all within a second. - So tell me why your body cant do this when you sleep? [even though the same chemical is released when you sleep]...

I believe your body has the ability to make time appear as fast or as slow as it wants. Although many scientists are still puzzled as to why this is the case, how the brain really works, how dreams work, hell, even how drugs really work...

Congrats on becoming lucid! Just keep practicing. The more lucid dreams you have, the more your mind will get used to the feeling of lucidity. Upon becoming lucid, try stay calm and keep your emotions in check. Instead of the, "OMG I'm dreaming!" feeling, try to pull of the, "Hmm, I am in a dream right now." Try stay nice and relaxed. This will come with experience. Congrats on your success thus far and just keep at it.

It depends whether it is a Lucid Dream, or Normal Dream...

Lucid Dreams, Yes. ...but there are dozens of tricks...
Regular Dream, Somewhat. You dont really have much control over regular dreams, so it makes it much more difficult.

I cant really give much feedback as to how in regular dreams, considering that i would be considered lucky, since I pretty much never have bad dreams, or ones that cause panic like that... Im sure people on this site can help you if you were to make a new thread discussing just that.
