      Thumbs up Hello form MikeM

God I hate it when forums log me out after I write a post! Here I go again!

I recently discovered Lucid Dreaming (Through reading, not experiencing) and the whole concept fascinates me. It's clear that it can be achieved with practice and training and i've already made the start by starting a dream journal and trying a few reality checks when the tought of LD crosses my mind.

Although I haven't yet managed to LD since learning of it, i'm fairly sure I used to do it to some extent when I was a kid. I'd wake up to go to the toilet in the night and return to the dreams i'd left but with (I think) some degree of control, or awareness at least.

I'd love to master the skill for several reasons. The first that came to mind after considering the posibilities was the fact that I could visit my girlfriend (Who is away in India teaching) in my dreams and do the things I like to do with her. We can sit on the beach together again and go bodysurfing the waves in the sea... and the rest I'd love to be able to do that and tell her about it.

Secondly, i'm a big fan of Paulo Coelho, and after reading this forum i've found people talking about dreamguides, who they believe to be their subconcious manifest. In 1986 Paulo released his first book, The Pilgrimage, which is about his own physical journey of self discovery through Europe. It's focussed alot on religeous elements (I'm actually not at all religeous), but the message of the book boils down to following your dreams and being the person you wish to be without restraint. He is on a search for his 'sword', which I believe is a metaphor for finding himself and answering his own deepest questions. This book, for me, ties in with lucid dreaming and dreamguides specifically, because one of the skills he shares with us, The Messenger ritual, is an excersise he uses to meet his own 'personal messneger', Astrain. Throughout the book he regularly converses with Astrain when he needs guidance on something or to learn more of his own personal desires and strenghs.

      From the book...
      1. Sit down and relax completely. Let your mind wander and your thinking flow without restraint. After a while, begin to repeat to yourself, ‘Now I am relaxed, and I am in the deepest kind of sleep.’
Interestingly enough his second book, The Alchemist, rose to become immensely popular and is, I believe, the third most translated book in the world behind the Bible and something else I can't remember. I think this speaks volumes for the power of self discovery and the knowledge we have within us.

So, here I am! Hello all, thanks for having me and I hope I can learn more from you all and contribute whilst I am here

I'm looking forward to my first LD, to meeting with my girlfriend and with my dreamguide. But for now... No... my finger won't pass through my palm. Maybe tonight?

Hello and welcome to DreamViews! That is some interesting stuff indeed. It is good that you started a dream journal and I recommend you try and keep up with it as much as possible. A simple dream journal can go along way in your path to lucidity. Good luck to you and if you ever have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

      Mike, welcome to DV!

As KingYoshi says, it's a good idea to keep up your dream journal, and stay motivated to do it whenever you remember anything. Even if you just remember one idea, like the word "downloading" (reference to my DJ today), you should journal it, because firstly it will help with improving your recall, and also because journalling it may trigger the rest of the dream to come back to you. Also, the more you journal, the better chance you have of noticing your dream signs, because more information always helps .

If you have any questions, feel free to ask, or send me a private message if you prefer.

      to DV.
It's really good that you are interested, and that you already have a plan of goals, that is really good for one to do.
Looks like you are on the right path already, you should get your LD in no time. ^^
Just remember to stabilize the dream, and remind yourself you are still dreaming from time to time, if you get too carried away the dream will probably fade.
Keep confident, don't give up and stay persistent; if you do those, you will have one quickly.
      From my rotting body,
      flowers shall grow
      and I am in them
      and that is eternity.

It's good to see a newbie so positive. One of the hardest things about LD is the fact that people make it harder for themselves. Obtaining lucidity isn't nearly as hard or complicated as people make it out to be sometimes and all that information can cloud new members into over-analyzing the process. If you keep the basics going, I know you'll be able to LD no matter what. Anyone can do it and every should do it. Good luck on dreaming and remember to stay positive in the process!

      Thanks for the welcome everyone

Are there any guides to sleep patterns (I'm sure there are tbh! I'll search in a sec!)... I'm finding that I am often so tired that I am literally 'flat out' until I wake up, even though I set some alarms to go off throughout the night, I ususally hit the stop button and decide I can't remember what I was dreaming and go back off to sleep and before I know it it's time for work (Which is 6am throughout the week). Come weekend I leave it to my body clock to decide when to wake up.... 9am today... I might just try a WBTB though and see how I get on!

Well it took a while, but I (think) I did it finally.

I was staring at my watch and realized it wasn't my watch at all and knew instantly I was dreaming... as soon as I realized the 'lucidity' I found wasn't at all like I had been expecting. It was like being awake inside my asleep body. I could feel my hand on my face from the position I was sleeping in and I could think completely clearly. And I could still see this non-existant watch. I couldn't fly and woke up after about a minute, but i'm eager for more now and to practice my techniques!

Congrats on becoming lucid ! Just keep practicing and your mind will get more more used to the feeling of lucidity. You will be able to turn these short lived experiences into full blown adventures. Good luck to you !

My fiancee read The Alchemist a few months ago. I had no idea what it was about until now. Maybe I need to read it, too.

Nice work, man. Getting past that first month of effort is a sure sign you'll be able to keep it up.
