      New member with some questions.

      Hey there.
I just registered on the site today, but my quest for lucidity started 4 days ago. So far I have been trying to keep a journal. My main focus right now is to improve my recall and to continue recording dreams until i have discovered some signs to look out for. I truly want to develop this skill, not just try and jump into being lucid every night. I hope i'm doing things the best way possible. This isn't about "derp inception" to me. I really want to unlock some of my mental potential and explore my subconscious.

Now, I have a few questions that hopefully some of you more experienced members can help me with.
-How many dreams should i be recording after every night of sleep? I usually get 1 more detailed description of my dream recorded, and then maybe 1 other dream but with much less detail. Is this a decent amount of information per night in order to progress as quickly and as thoroughly as possible?
-Can people count as dream signs? I've seen my brother who recently moved away in about half of the dreams i've recalled.
-With enough practice, how often can lucidity be achieved? Can lucid dreaming become almost a night-time hobby?, or is it something that shows itself every once in a while so you can't really expect it?
-I'm having a little trouble developing a reality check. Can someone please give me an example of a consistently useful check? Also, when should I be doing these checks in the waking world? Do reality checks within dreams happen just by the physical habit you've developed while awake, or are they used when you've already questioned the reality you're in?
That's all the questions i have now, any responses to them or just dropping in to say hello is greatly appreciated!

      See you in my dreams!

      Welcome to DV, Hanzon! =D

      - That's more than enough. You pretty much want to write down enough so that when you go through your dream journal entries, you can notice patterns and dream signs.
      - Yessir.
      - With enough practice, you can manage one (nearly) every night. Sometimes multiple LDs per night.

Hey Hanzo, Welcome to Dreamviews! It is really good your focusing on your recall right now, especially since you just started out.

      Questions:
-I think if you remember 1-2 dreams a night in good detail, then you can start to focus on actually lucid dreaming. As time goes on your recall should increase.
-Yes people can be dream signs. A lot of my friends are in my dreams, and help me realize I am dreaming.
-With enough practice you can learn to have a lucid dream every night! It depends on the person how long it takes to get to that point, though.
-Have you seen this reality check tutorial? It answers your questions, and gives you more info.

      Good luck!

Hey thanks for the reply, Gavin! (noticed you're a BTnH fan too, woop!)
It's nice to see how active this board is, I think i'll be frequenting it from now on (even if i'm just lurking ).

Edit: thanks for the tip Mancon, i'll be reading up on that shortly.
You two really encouraged me to continue, so thanks for that!

-How many dreams should i be recording after every night of sleep? I usually get 1 more detailed description of my dream recorded, and then maybe 1 other dream but with much less detail. Is this a decent amount of information per night in order to progress as quickly and as thoroughly as possible? - You want to record as many dreams as you can remember. Whether thats just a fragment of one, or a dozen full, vivid dreams, though for the long ones its okay if you just write down key points and notes.

-Can people count as dream signs? I've seen my brother who recently moved away in about half of the dreams i've recalled. - Of course. Anything that is recurring in your dreams from a person, a place, even a certain situation.

-With enough practice, how often can lucidity be achieved? Can lucid dreaming become almost a night-time hobby?, or is it something that shows itself every once in a while so you can't really expect it? - If you get really experiences you can have LDs pretty much every night, though you may run into some dry spells where you don't get any at all for a bit. DEILDs and WILDs are pretty reliable if you can get the hang of them.

-I'm having a little trouble developing a reality check. Can someone please give me an example of a consistently useful check? Also, when should I be doing these checks in the waking world? Do reality checks within dreams happen just by the physical habit you've developed while awake, or are they used when you've already questioned the reality you're in? - One of the most common and reliable reality checks people do is the "nose plug" reality check. It's preformed by plugging your nose and trying to breathe through it. If you can, you're dreaming! If not, you most likely aren't. Another is checking your hands for any extra fingers/oddities that may be prevalent.

Reality checks are often used once you find yourself questioning reality (such as in a DILD) or once you think you have successfully completed a WILD or DEILD. However, there have been moments where i have just randomly did a RC in a dream and became lucid, though this is quite rare (for me, at least).

Good luck and don't give up!
