Question Should I try lucid dreaming for the first time?

See, I don't know if I should try, if I did, WILD is most preferred by me, it's quicker BUT!

I'm very scared to try because of 4 reasons:
      OBE (This sounds terrifying)
      Never waking from Sleep Paralysis
Having a nightmare (Chance is low, I'm not afraid of much)
AND. . . dying while having sleep paralysis, I've heard that there is a type of condition where you die because you can't breath.

Although, I know the results are great, I can practice my Cello, Try public speaking, and putting myself in the roll of Gordon Freeman from half-life (LOL)

OBE (This sounds terrifying) - well, whether you believe it's real or just a dream scenario, it happens in regular sleep as well as when WILDing. Just about everybody experiences it several times in their life.

Never waking from Sleep Paralysis - Not sure what you mean by this? Every time you're in REM sleep, your body is paralyzed - it's a defense mechanism to keep you from acting out what you're dreaming, and if it fails that's when people sleepwalk. Sleep Paralysis is simply waking up while still in that paralyzed state. It doesn't last very long when this happens.

Having a nightmare - Again, this happens all the time in regular sleep. If you're lucid you can actually do something about it - teleport away from the nightmare creature, ask it what message it has for you, transform it into a teddy bear...

dying while having sleep paralysis - I don't know about this condition. What's it called? Is it common? Do you have any reason to believe you have it? I have never heard of anyone dying while in SP.

Well, I heard there's some kind of condition that MIGHT be related to SP, but not for sure. It's something like Sudden death syndrome. I don't know, but I'm going to give Lucid dreaming a go. Crowbar here I come!

Ok, I googled and found this:

a very rare condition called Sudden Unexplained Nocturnal Death Syndrome (SUNDS) may closely relate to Sleep Paralysis (1). Upon the death, a SUNDS victim produces no body movement even though he experiences a myocardial infarction and strong breathing difficulties and should straggle in agony (5). The death may be caused by the extreme muscle atonia during Sleep Paralysis, which is so severe that even the cardiac muscles and the diaghragm paralyze

Hadn't heard of that before. It does say it's very rare though.

      Hey Icebreeze, welcome to DV!

Darkmatters answered your questions well, although I may be able to provide more input on a possible sleeping disorder related to not breathing. The condition you're speaking of might be called sleep apnea, which is caused by having an obstructed airway, usually due to excessive snoring.

Good luck on your lucid endeavors! If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.
