      Couldn't Move My Body

I just remembered something reading someone's thread, it wasn't related to this, but for some reason got me to remember.

Anywho, I've only made 3 attempts at LDing. This last attempt was after a full sleep, woke up for an hour and then went back for a nap (about 2 hours.) While attempting to fall asleep I got to a point where I felt like I couldn't move, weighted almost. I also felt like I was almost in a dream, but I knew I wasn't.

I think if I really tried to move, had I needed to, I could have. But it was more of a physical tied with a mental thing of feeling heavy and not wanting to move because of it. I'm doing a horrible job of explaining this...anyone have any insight into this? It wasn't a bad experience, it was actually kind of okay; never felt anything like it.

Hi there my friend, you've just experienced a Sleep Paralysis(also known as SP). During an SP, your body will be paralyzed and not be able move. But don't worry, it's a natural function of our body that activates when we sleep. Its main purpose is to restrict the movement of our body during sleep so that we won't get ourselves to trouble. SP is often accompanied by Hypnagogic Hallucinations(HH). Hypnagogic Hallucination includes strong vibration of the body, sharp buzzing sound or even creepy hallucinations, but of course, it varies from person to person.

SP is often considered the transitional phase. It's the phase were you are about to enter a Lucid Dream. That's right, you were one step away from having an LD. There are two ways of entering a dream from that point. The first one, if you're imaginative enough, you will have to imagine the dream setting and engage yourself into it. The second one, you'll have to wait for this sharp buzzing sounds and vibrations to stop, then, you'll be able slowly get up from your bed. If you chose the 2nd one, your lucid dream will often start off from your room or the place you're sleeping in. So don't be turned off when you get up and you're inside your room cause there's might be a chance that the room itself is a dream. So do an RC.

Just continue to practice and be patient. If you do still have some questions, feel free to reply back. Hope this helps

Yep, that sounds like a classic case of sleep paralysis. The good news is, if it happens to you frequently, you can now use it to your advantage--not only can you control the creepy hallucinations, but you can use it to launch a WILD.

I just read up on the Beginner's Guide this evening, just finished the part about SP. Thanks for the additional info, both of you.

I do have a question, though. I didn't feel any vibrations, have any hallucinations or hear anything out of the ordinary; is that normal? Was it even SP if I didn't have any additional conditions? Is it possible that I just forgot them?

Also, I remember feeling in limbo towards the end of what I remember from the SP (or whatever happened). I knew I was awake, but I felt like I was super close to dreaming. However the more I focused on this the further I felt from dreaming. Is there a trick to ignoring yourself? lol

Finally, it's funny you should mention waking up in your bed in the dream, weakamon. It wasn't the room I fell asleep in, but I somehow knew it was my room. Too bad I never realized it was a dream..lol. I can't wait to try this again.

      Thanks again for the help!

      Hi there my friend,

SP tends to vary from person to person. Some experience weak buzzy sounds while others experience intense vibrations and terrifying hallucinations. Anyways, it's possible that you were not able to experience the additional conditions because you've just experienced an SP that is weak. But it's still possible that you've forgotten the effects(but the chances of forgetting it is pretty low)

Also, I remember feeling in limbo towards the end of what I remember from the SP (or whatever happened). I knew I was awake, but I felt like I was super close to dreaming. However the more I focused on this the further I felt from dreaming. Is there a trick to ignoring yourself? lol
I seem to can't process the word limbo in your statement my friend. Is it the limbo from Inception or from other sources like religion? Please kinda elaborate the question so that I can be able to process it

Finally, it's funny you should mention waking up in your bed in the dream, weakamon. It wasn't the room I fell asleep in, but I somehow knew it was my room. Too bad I never realized it was a dream..lol. I can't wait to try this again.
I recommend you make it a habit to question reality whenever you wake up. Like is there something unusual in your room or is it just the everyday usual. Examine every detail you can find. Make it also a habit to examine reality not just when you wake up, but also during EVERYTIME

Wish you luck in your next attempt and hope this helps

Thanks for the clarification on SP.

I believe limbo is originally from religion, but I'm using it like 'half way between dreaming and awake. Partially dreaming, partially awake kind of feeling."

I'll continue to try and RC all the time, awake or asleep. Thanks!

      Hi there again my friend,

Now that Limbo is cleared, maybe I can provide a tip or an answer

It would help if you'd engage yourself to something rather distracting my friend. Why not listen to the external sounds produced by your surroundings? Maybe like, the ticking of the clock or the passing of nearby vehicles? You can also just count in your mind to be in a single-minded state.

Hope this helps and again, Good Luck

I went back to sleep after my last post and attempted a WILD. I managed to enter a SP again, but it wasn't as strong this time. However, towards the very tail end I remember hallucinating weird objects, it kind of looked like the outline of a jellyfish or something.

I also tried focusing on being on a beach for my dream and my hallucinations were grey and black repeating waves; so I know my brain was trying. Unfortunately I didn't sleep long and either didn't dream or don't remember it.
