      The beginning of my Journey

Hi everyone! Obviously, I'm new here. I've been "trying" to have a lucid dream since some time last winter. By trying I mean, wanting to but not putting any effort into it. However during the past few weeks I decided to start trying a little harder. Last night I achieved lucidity for the first time! However it didn't last any longer than 10 or so seconds.

I achieved this by using the reality check of looking at my palm. In my waking life, the lines of my palm form an "M" So for the past week I have been looking at my palm focusing on the "M" multiple times a day and asking myself if I was dreaming.

Last night while running down a tunnel in my dream I suddenly wondered if I was dreaming, stopped running and looked at my palm. The lines of my palm formed a clear "X" and I knew I was dreaming. I had achieved lucidity. Problem was, I wanted to change the situation but couldn't decide between two different possibilities. However I spun in a circle and closed my eyes attempting to "transport" myself / change the scenery, however since I hadn't decided where I wanted to go I opened my eyes a little to forced and woke myself up.

While some might consider last night a failure, to me it was a HUGE success. In addition to my short lived lucidity, I had at least five vivid dreams that I remembered this morning.

      Hello!
I do that all the time, I get split visions of where I want to go and can't choose, don't worry about it! There is plenty of time to do more!
I don't think anyone would consider that a failure, very well done!

Congratulations on your first lucid dream! Transportation is quite a risky thing to attempt as soon as you become lucid, as you found out. Next time I'd recommend not being so hasty, flying is a good skill for beginners to start with. Anyone's first lucid dream is always a huge success, keep at it and hopefully soon you'll time to really appreciate the experience of being conscious in a dream.

Usually lucids from a DILD are quite stable but if you're going to try transporting or anything that involves a major change to the environment it wouldn't hurt to try and stabilize it. Congrats on the first lucid! Happy dreaming

      Hi there my friend,
Congratulations on your first LD .That was definitely a success to a beginner's part even though it was short. I'm sure that you'll get used to it after a couple of more LDs.

Congrats on your first LD! My first LD was even shorter then yours, don't worry.
BTW I find teleportation easier than flying personally.

That's definitely not a failure, congrats on your first lucid. My first LD was about 10 seconds long as well. It can be kind of overwhelming when you first become lucid.
Don't try anything too big in your first few lucids, unless you're SURE you can do it. Start out with simple things, like flying, or expecting something to be behind a door and it'll be there. There's an infinity of possibilities when it comes to LDing. Have fun with your future ones.

Welcome to DV. All it takes to lucid dream is time and effort. If you're willing to put that in some day you may be lucid dreaming every night. Good luck to you. I look forward to seeing you around.
