      Just Beginning the Journey

      Hello DV members!

I've had a strong interest in lucid dreaming for the last several months, after my dad introduced the concept to me. I quickly discovered Dream Views, and since then I've been browsing the forums every once and a while, reading up on techniques and stuff like that. However, I never really got around to trying things out until a few weeks ago, when I attempted RCs, WBTB a few times, and even mind awake body asleep. Still, I failed at getting a lucid dream. I soon realized that I was trying to run before I could even crawl, because I have almost no dream recall whatsoever!

So... since that realization (about two weeks ago) I've been keeping a dream journal, but so far I only have one entry! I know that the foundation of good lucid dreaming is a solid dream recall, so all I want to do right now is get mine where it needs to be before making any more LD attempts. I think my poor recall may be due to habitually low amounts of sleep - around six hours or less per night. Maybe I'm not even getting to the later, more alert REM stages? Whether or not this is the reason, I'm going to make an effort to get at least 7.5-8 hours of sleep every night from now on. I think it should help. What are your thoughts on this? When you were first starting out, how did you develop your dream recall?

I'm sure your responses will be helpful somehow. It's the reason why I finally registered yesterday!

Getting more sleep should definitely help you have more dreams. I'd suggest trying to wake up multiple times during the night and trying to write down whatever dreams you can recall having at that time (or at least some brief notes). I know when I wait until the morning I rarely remember any dreams.

Thanks for the idea. I'll definitely try it out.

      Hello and welcome to Dreamviews.

I never really did do anything to develop my dream recall as I always could remember at least one a week. When I was about 13 I started to keep a dream journal because I kept having reacurring dreams, but stoped doing that when I was about 15.

I would just say to keep your dream journal and record the dreams you do have even the dreams you can only remember a few bits.
