      How rare is the ability to LD at will?

      Ive read somewhere that 50% of the population will have atleast 1 LD in their lifetime but what % actually have the ability to LD out of will and not chance?

      Everyone has the ability to lucid dream at will. I'm not sure how many people out of that 50% have done it at will versus those who have done it by accident though.

      Ah right. Thank you. I guess what I'm looking into is how rare this ability is compared to the rest of the world, does anyone know?

      Lucid dreaming is rare in the sense that:

      - Majority of people have no clue that it's possible;
      - Most people that know it's possible don't know lucid dreams can be induced, they just perceive them as "rare phenomenons"

      For oneironauts like the ones you find in here, meaning people that explore the dream world with the aid of lucid dreaming, they can be induced. Depending on personal skill and experience, they appear very regularly if you work hard and long enough on them

      PS: I've read in some book that around 70% of the world's population has experienced a lucid dream, even if they can't remember. But since I can't find the source or even confirm this claim, I wouldn't take it too serious

      Sounds pretty solid to me. By the way, how do I add the LD count to my profile?

      Nevermind, found it!

      Everyone can learn to lucid dream. Some people have them but don't know what they are. Discovering that there is a way to induce lucid dreams at will is not very common. There are also a percentage of the population that lucid dreams frequently, with no effort. From what I understand these people just feel the difference between waking life and the dream world. So in a sense they practice ADA without knowing it.

      Just like everyone said, anyone can lucid dream, it's something that requires confidence and intent.
      Before I started to try to lucid dream, i had LDs beforehand, some people are more natural at it than others. It just takes practice

      Although I can't put a specific number to it, I would imagine I LD more than most people not trained for it. My best guess is that I LD at least twice a month without trying, possibly more, I'm not sure. Perhaps it is because I'm right-brained and have a very active imagination, always have. Listing 5 LDs on my profile is low, it's just the amount I can recall consciously.

      Everyone has the potential to LD at will...but we don't actually know how many people are actually doing that now, because so little research is done on the subject. Unfortunately, LDing is still not very mainstream and a lot of people who can do it have no idea there's even a name for it or that they're not the only ones LDing. Maybe if it becomes more mainstream we'll have an accurate picture of what percentage of the population can LD at will.

      Before I knew what it was, I may have had one very semi-lucid dream a LONG time ago like when I was 7 or 8. 9 years later I find out about it and techniques on how to induce lucidity in a dream, and even though science says we dream less the older we get, I'm getting more and more LD's the more I practice. It is a learned skill, and I believe everyone can learn it, but like with all learned skills, not everyone will become proficient at it, and very few will master it, if any at all.
