Post Reality Checks Becoming Less Successful

I've been trying on and off for about a year now to lucid dream. Recently i have had 3 dreams where I had reality checks, noticed something was wrong, realized I was dreaming, yet the dream continued on and I had no control whatsoever. Why is this happening? And also, is keeping a dream journal REALLY as important as it's made out to be?

Well, you were lucid if you realized you were dreaming. You can have lucid dreams with no control and also normal dreams with control.
Don't know much about not being able to take control of a lucid dream, someone else can answer that for you

The past few months I haven't been using my dream journal I've been having bad recall. But when I was using my dream journal I did have ALOT better recall, so it does really help with the recall, totally up to you if you want to use one or not, if you have a steady recall without one, you can do just fine without a journal.

Maybe you just need to practice stabilizing the dream, some dreams can be sketchy and weird, where you just lose awareness.

And well, dream journals are mostly important if your recall is poor or if you're beginning. I rarely use mine anymore because I can generally remember my dreams. Sometimes I regret it though haha, but I've been practicing for a while, they are usually helpful for me in the middle of the night when i remember a dream and in the morning I would/would have forgotten it.
An alternative is a voice recorder which is a bit easier, and quicker. Or just lay down in bed right when you wake up, don't move at all, keep your eyes shut and just focus on your dreams and remembering, that usually is beneficial to most.
