A gamer's greeting and other drivel

Hello, my name is Caenis. I'm finishing up my bachelor's degree in the US, my major is accounting. I enjoy discussing business and the economy. I'm afraid I don't care much for business culture, despite my major. I'm a casual gamer--I'm partial to strategy games--I'm very interested in Japanese and Chinese cultures/languages, anime, and I enjoy learning.

A month ago I started researching about lucid dreams, and decided to try it. I never had a lucid dream before, but I've known about lucid dreaming for ten years. I watched Paprika and Inception a few months ago, which fueled my curiosity. I thought that recreating memories and making impossible situations reality was very appealing. I had my first lucid dream yesterday, yet as soon as I realized I was dreaming I woke up. I hope to learn much more from my own experiences and this community. I look forward to getting to know all of you.

Welcome, good to have you here with us. As a relatively new user myself, I would vouch for the help and community of this site - don't hold back any questions you may have.

Also, if you're into dream films, I recently watched Waking Life, which I thought was incredible (if a bit weird!).

Nice intro, can't see many like these in forums (including mine ) Anyways, welcome, I'm sure you'll find the community very welcoming and you'll have a good time. For starters I can really recommend THe Beginner's Guide to Lucid Dreaming It contains all the information you need about techniques and in general. Stop by the chat sometimes. Hope to see you around posting.

EDIT: Ohmaigot, I only noticed now, your avatar is awesomesauce.

MoSh, I recognize that movie title, but maybe I saw it in this forum somewhere. Thank you for your suggestion! I'll try to find this movie. The art style is fascinating. I'm fond of weird movies, so I should enjoy it.

Thanks for the information, Duck. I agree, this community seems very welcoming, as well as open and thoughtful. I'm surprised how many people frequent the chatroom here. I'll be sure to visit sometime.
I can't say the avatar is my creation, sadly. I do think the Gentlemanly Escort Cube is quite dapper. I'm a fan of the steampunk culture as well.

Thanks Hawkeye. Every now and again I try an FPS, but I become very frustrated and aggressive when I play them. I prefer third-person shooters because I feel more in control, but they still result in me occasionally swearing up a storm and ragequitting. =p I'm still trying to expand my gaming world beyond just strategy/puzzle games or RPGs.

If you plan on expanding to other games, I suggest checking out a few different games. COD Black ops and COD WaW, mainly for the Nazi Zombies feature.
Along with Fable 3. (If you haven't already)
Also, Left 4 Dead 2 is an interesting FPS game, as well as Battlefield 3.
Though Battlefield 3 is possibly the most realistic FPS game ever, which makes it more challenging. But it does have many vehicles, which you can specialize in the Engineer class to help along the line of vehicular warfare.
All of them are fun, but my favorite RPG is Skyrim, featuring a vast landscape which can't all be explored the very first time you play.

Hey Arch, thanks. I agree, a lot of people probably learned about lucid dreaming from Inception. I watched Paprika first though, and was initially disappointed that the concepts were so similar in Inception. I had heard so much about how original Inception was, to learn that Inception was inspired by Paprika. Both great films though, and they use similar concepts very differently. While these two films encouraged me to look up more about lucid dreaming, I learned about it years ago from my sister. She experimented with lucid dreaming, meditation, OOBE, and tarot cards while I was in middle school, so she told me about her experiences. I took it all with a grain of salt; it sounded suspicious. I was religious back in those days, so I had mixed feelings about my sister's interests.
Arch, you don't happen to visit a Fire Emblem forum, do you?

Thanks for the suggestions, Hawkeye! I am ashamed to admit I have not played an American RPG yet. I purchased Mass Effect 2 a while ago, but was forced to sell it before I got far into it. Fable 3 and Skyrim are on my list of games to play too, along with Dragon Age. I suspect that L4D2 and Battlefield 3 might lead to mass ragequits, so I think I might try one of the COD games first. I'm trying to play through all of the games I own before I purchase more. My current game is LA Noire, which has been surprisingly exciting. I get to touch a lot of dead people, solve crimes, shoot folks, car chases. GTA meets Phoenix Wright.

L.A. Noire is just... really original game. Can't find many games like that nowadays. Also, Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a very fine RPG + FPS, if you don't want to play hardcore FPS like COD or BF3 (which I, by the way, hate, lol)

A very fun FPS is also Team Fortress 2, it can be casual if you make it to be, I rarely ragequit during my playtime. Besides it's made by Valve! (and it's free since last year, so yeah, give it a try ) No need to mention Portal, I hope.

Skyrim is, in my opinion, very, very overrated. I'm not saying it's a bad game, sure, the huge landscape is a mindblown feature but... I don't know, it started to bore me a little after a few hours. I finished the game with cheats, I have to say.

Also, Mirror's Edge is a recommendation I always give, the game was... really inovative. First person parkour? There's nothing like that out there. Besides, the story is very gripping, too.

I stopped playing Skyrim! I modded my game on there and had every single power, even ones that you can't normally get that were tested by the developers. I plan on getting a modded Xbox 360 system and Modding the Hell out of more games, bending them to my will!
Well Ghost I may have to try those games out, Mirror's Edge sounds interesting.

I agree Duck, LA Noire is great. Deus Ex sounds like a good game to help expand my gaming world. I'll still definitely try COD when I get the chance though.

I didn't realize that TF2 was still free. I'm not sure how well my laptop can handle it, but if it's still free, I might as well download it and try it. You assumed correctly that I played Portal. Did you/Hawkeye know that Valve made a mod for Skyrim? You can get the space core in Valve's mod! The mod doesn't add much else though.

Huh. I heard that Mirror Edge's plot was lacking. I contemplated purchasing the game last year, but decided against it because of the weak plot mentioned in reviews. I do like original games though, so I'll give it a shot. Glad to see that not everyone thinks Mirror Edge's plot is lackluster.

Well, it was kind of cliché, but overall it gave me a warm feeling when finishing the game. Even if you won't like the plot, the environments are great and I never got bored jumping around, because there always were little challenges and new things to be discovered.
