L.A. Noire is just... really original game. Can't find many games like that nowadays. Also, Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a very fine RPG + FPS, if you don't want to play hardcore FPS like COD or BF3 (which I, by the way, hate, lol)
A very fun FPS is also Team Fortress 2, it can be casual if you make it to be, I rarely ragequit during my playtime. Besides it's made by Valve! (and it's free since last year, so yeah, give it a try

) No need to mention Portal, I hope.
Skyrim is, in my opinion, very, very overrated. I'm not saying it's a bad game, sure, the huge landscape is a mindblown feature but... I don't know, it started to bore me a little after a few hours. I finished the game with cheats, I have to say.
Also, Mirror's Edge is a recommendation I always give, the game was... really inovative. First person parkour? There's nothing like that out there. Besides, the story is very gripping, too.
