      Surrealism

So, I'm 15, now that's out of the way...

I've been absolutely fascinated by dreams all my life. I don't keep a journal or anything, and I don't know how to lucid dream, but I generally have pretty interesting/disturbing/surreal dreams and while I usually forget them I can still remember a few from when I was really little.

I enjoy writing as well so I like experimenting with dream logic etc

Welcome to our invisible little portal of shapes. It only took up half of the rest. Feel free to shovel up a wall full of kettle and fold the decision in half.

I have no idea what you just said! If I see the prime koala next week, I'll give him your signature!

Thanks for the link I will definitely check it out.

I frequently realise that I'm dreaming, but then I either a). slip out of the dream, it sort of melts away as I try to grasp to it or b). I simply forget that I'm dreaming and continue as before, which is quite strange. Once or twice, I woke up and then tried to sleep again only to go back to the same place in the dream but utterly depopulated. It's weird (Is this common to newbies maybe, lacking concentration or whatever?)

I'll go through a few of the guides here now, they seem very helpful

Yeah it's pretty common, you just have to remind yourself that you're dreaming every now and then by performing a few stabiliziation techniques like rubbing your hands or activating any other sense.

      Update!

OK, so I had two dreams. One during the night, and one less than an one hour ago (I can sort of nod off again in the morning after I've slept, sometimes even twice, and I always dream when that happens, but it does when it does)

The first dream was pretty pathetic. It was a longish dream, not very unusual, I was sort of dazed and accepting like usual. There was even a digital clock, and at one point I even asked somebody for the time, but it never triggered a remembrance to RC. Maybe that will come easier with time..

The second dream was a bit more interesting. (I sort of fell into it in the morning as I said, these dreams tend to be shorter though) I'm in a school, with a blue schoolbag. I sit next to someone with a red bag. OK. But as I put my blue bag down on my right, there's an identical one on my left.
I think the realisation hit me far too quickly, because I instantly start rubbing my hands and thinking 'I'm dreaming I'm dreaming.' I sort of black out, with a loud buzzing sound, and a DC's yell fading away into my ear. Then I woke up, sort of paralyzed for a few seconds, then I'm as normal. And now here I am.

P.S Is the dream journal only for lucid-dreams, or for noting dreams in general? Thanks

When you're beginning and unconfident it is normal for you to experience some instability when you become lucid. Don't worry though! You'll find that as you have more and more that your dreams will get more stable and you'll be able to spend much more time in the dream, and everything will be a lot clearer and realistic Instead of instantly freaking out and starting to stabilise try to just take a moment and engage your senses slowly. Rub your hands, pay attention to the detail of the friction, take a look around and see the detail in where you are, listen to what you can hear, etc. Taking this calm approach will help you MUCH more, as it's the calmness and sensory detail which will help you easiest

In terms of a dream journal, generally you record every dream or fragment you can remember. After a year of 4-6 dreams a night on average, I still record every dream I have in my journal because I find it a crucial part of my recall There's also the online dream journals where you can upload any dreams you like.

What I hope most is that I'll actually be able to trigger the RC on my own, because I think I'll be able to relax more and not lose the dream so quickly if I question the dream myself. When that two-bag thing hit me, my thoughts were thus:

"Two bags oh my God that's impossible relax! calm down! rub hands I'm dreaming I'm dreaming what's that buzzing noise is that the dream transition darn it I'm awake."
      (I think I've found my signature )

I'll get started on the dream journal then. Also, am I right in assuming I should not consider the 2-bag-fiasco a Lucid Dream? Because it would be a thoroughly boring first LD to have.

It was most certainly a lucid dream! Any dream in which you become aware of the fact that you are dreaming fits under the definition of a Lucid Dream. While it may not be exciting, it's certainly a start, and they'll get a lot longer and more interesting very soon

Ok then I must say, it was a pretty weird first LD, since I went all night with only 1 normal dream and then I got the bag thing at 7 freaking AM, when I was lying on my back eyes closed not trying to sleep!

It's heartening I guess, results on the first try. I'm not expecting results every time of course, but it's nice

Edit: 7 days, I'll have to wait then.
