      Experiencing my first lucid dreams...

Hello, I'm a newbie who came to lucid dreaming through meditation and studying mysticism. After reading a book on lucid dreaming, I found I could induce it on my first attempt and have had five or six lucid dreams in the past month and a half, with my dream recall improving every day. The dream journal helps with that.

I've seen the acronyms for different methods, which I fully intend to explore. Up to finding this forum, I followed Robert Waggoner's tip of looking for your outstretched palms and then allowing the dream to unravel around you.

I'm finding meditation and breathing control before hypnagogia allows me to moderate my thoughts and go with it. At first, I only had muddy visions of myself floating out of my body and, by the last dream, clearer, first person experiences of flying, running and also diving into water and swimming.

Last night's dream was so astounding I determined I should sign up here and get more insight. The dream featured a moment where I grew tired of the landscape and consciously decided to pull it down like a canvass, and behind it was a beach scenario that I flew into. Incredible.

I am constantly amazed at the revelation of lucid dreaming and, this may sound weird, have a feeling of relief that I now have access to this internal landscape. I look forward to reading all the hints and tips on the site...

      Peaceful dreaming...

Hello and welcome to DV, DTTM.
It sounds like you already have a good start with a solid background by using meditation techniques.
It also seems that you are already getting familiar with using WILD (Wake Induced Lucid Dreaming) and DILD (Dream Induced Lucid Dreaming). However like you say there are other techniques like MILD, etc.

Yes, I can remember when I had my first LD's (via WBTB - DILD) where it got me hooked; then the hard work started.
Although I think, like yourself, if you get to know your body and the general mechanics of being able to relax, or sleep whatever then the more chance of experiencing more frequent LD's.

You are on the right road with using a DJ. After a time you should recognise particular dreamsigns that are individual to you. Thus helping you recognise them in future dreams.

You will find plenty of help and info. on here, inc. dream control, etc. once you are lucid.

      All the best.

Hopefully this most recent lucid dream was a breakthrough, and will lead to many more of the same

      Thanks for the thoughtful replies

Yes, I do find the meditation and breathing techniques help me to remain mindful during bodily sleep. At present the dreamworld is quite unstable and liable to spin and change if my awareness changes, but I'm delighted to be able to at least enter into it. Hopefully I'll keep breaking through and gain some more control.

One thing that astounds me reading journal entries here is the similarity of some experiences to my own - most notably entering a starscape at the point of entry. This scenario always seems to be my entry point...

I'll look into MILD right now

I love seeing the similarities in everyone's dreams. Dreams can seem so outlandish and insane. Just when I think I'm going crazy, I read through a few dream journals and realize that everyone is just as crazy as me.

It's definitely reassuring to know that we all have this spontaneous, creative and intuitive ability laying dormant behind our modulated reality... I think we're going to see people in large numbers opening up to this way of thinking over the next few years. I'm really pleased to know there's such an active group discussing the unconscious realms - it restores my faith in humanity.
