      Trouble remembering

Hello, i'm new and I am doing an experiment with myself this month. It has been a few months since but I had earlier read books on lucid dreaming and succeeded about three times while trying to do so. I use accepted techniques and have tried many things in my lucid dreams I recall wanting to do before I sleep. I started my first night of the experiment May 11th. That day I spent hours on hours reading about lucid induction, as well as reading about others lucid dreams with the thought that if I spent most of the day concentrating and focusing on lucid dreams, I would have one. (Or at least remember my regular dreams). As of now I hadn't remembered my dreams and this is really putting a damper on my experiment as I need to progress fast. If anyone can help me with remembering my regular dreams I hope to be successful with that. Thank you.

(Also I am a big pothead, I know it disturbs my short-term memory when I smoke everyday, I wonder if that gives me trouble remembering dreams)

Smoking and dreaming don't go hand in hand that well, if you can cut back -- try laying still when your waking and softly focus on remembering.

Maybe set an alarm to go off every 1.5 hours into your sleep, especially closer to when you wake up. This should wake you up in the middle of an REM period and you should remember your dream.

      Welcome to DV!

Sorry to say, but without remembering dreams there is not much sense trying to lucid dream, since you most likely won't remember those either.

If you decide to stop smoking pot, you can try these suggestions to get your recall up. And who knows, maybe it will go up by itself when you don't smoke.

      1. Write in a dream journal
      2. Repeat some mantras as you falling asleep "I remember my dreams", "I wake up after each dream and remember them", "I wake up in the morning and remember my dreams"
      3. Drink water before bed and each time you wake up - write down your dreams while fresh in memory

      Happy dreams

Another thing I do when I'm having trouble remembering my dream is writing "DREAMS" on a sticky note. Then I put that sticky note where I will see it right when I get up.
