      A Question About Lucid Dreaming

Hi, my name is Mark. I have developed an interest in lucid dreaming. I found out about it on YouTube. After which I looked further into it on various websites. I'm very interested in trying it. However, I have some concerns. And these concerns make me wonder if I will succeed in lucid dreaming or not. I know it is said that anyone can have a lucid dream, but I've seen information that makes me feel I can't. It has to do with sleep itself. I've seen information about the average human being's sleep cycles. From what I gather, now correct if I'm wrong, is that you need to sleep somewhere from 4-6 hours in order to achieve deep rem sleep. From what I can gather this is the period where you have the highest chance of achieving lucid dreaming. The problem with me is I, for as long I can remember, have never slept that long. I usually wake up 2-3 times during the night. The longest I can ever recall sleeping was somewhere between 2-3 hours at a time. I don't believe I have insomnia. I usually have pretty good dream recall. So if anyone can tell precisely if I'm right or I am making too much out out of this, please let me know. I really, really want to do this, but I'm afraid the way I sleep will prevent it.

      Thanks,
      Mark

      Welcome to DreamViews!

You need not worry about the odd sleep schedule. I often wake up in the night at least once, and typically several times. If anything I find it helps my lucidity.

What hurts lucidity most is not paying attention to your dreams, and since you already have good recall (and you made it here) I bet you will find success in your efforts. Everyone here would tell you to relax, not stress your schedule (or anything else if possible) and let the dreaming begin!

We have some tutorials in our WIKI that can guide you towards lucidity. Think of them like a guidebook, lessons to work on and adjust to your own habits. Most people find success with their guidance.

We also have some classes in dreaming techniques, including a beginner's class that just started. Look it up if you're interested, I linked it for you.

If you have any questions feel free to post here or send me a Private Message by clicking on my profile picture.

      Happy dreaming!

Melanieb, thanks for the tips. I really appreciate it. That's all I needed to know. Based on what you said, I will attempt to do this. Again thanks for easing my fears.

It is normal to wake several times throughout the night. It is a part of our sleep cycles. Some people notice this awakening more than others. As we age, we tend to notice it more. Most lucid dreamers work to train themselves to notice these awakenings. More awakenings = more time to remember dreams and set your intentions. This is good news for you
