Hi. Always wondered how weird my dreams are to others

      Hi,

I've had WEIRD dreams for years now. So weird I actually ENJOY sleeping and hope that I dream on a nightly basis. I dreamt past my death many times (details will come in later posts), recanted dreams at later times and defied laws of physics and logic in ways that still seem to blow my mind. However these dreams might be pedestrian compared to some of the ones on this forum. Not looking for analysis of dreams per-say (though welcome to it), just pleasure in sharing dreaming experiences. Lastly if anyone has any tips on how to obtain a dreaming session at night, I'm welcome to them!

Small teaser, this is a dream I found last night cleaning my desk (I note a lot of them on random pieces of paper at times). My dream was very long an detailed. I could write ~5 pages about the dream (despite that it was 3 years ago) but I'll summarize to capture the thoughts:

I'm walking on a road with abandoned cars. I meander my way through rough urban settings with kids that have no recourse for murder or death. I eventually find my way to a broken down kindergarten room where myself and 2 friends work to tend to a baby with an ill-formed head. The baby keeps peeing on us (PG rated) and we struggle to keep it clean. Upon giving up we go to the bar in the room and have several drinks, getting very drunk. I then awake (in my dream, not real life) and am confused as in this dream-within-a-dream I was my father. I had been dreaming I was him this entire time. As I awake I call the friends of my father who were in the dream and they too claim to have had the same dream. The bartender from the dream then appears at my house to tell me about the details of the dream I had. Not so much about the weird parts but that I dreamt that my father was at a bar and that it was a dream and not reality. My father then calls to say he will be home in 10 minutes and was in SC. My mother and I then doubt that he was in SC and believe he was at the bar, most as we've never met the bartender before and am confused as to why he would willingly come to our house to offer the explanation of the dream I had.

This was several years before inception or before I had ever read about dreams within dreams.

      Hi, and welcome to DreamViews!

      I enjoy sleeping too!

Sounds like you experienced a False Awakening to me. It's a weird sensation.

You mention that you can recall some real detail in your dreams...that's awesome! Many people struggle with recall, but it's really is the best first step to the path for lucid dreams. If you can't remember the experience it won't do you any good.

We have a WIKI here filled with some great information. I could suggest reading over the Dream Induction Techniques information page. It lists a lot of the basic methods and links you to their respective tutorials.

Feel free to post questions in the forum, in this thread, or send me a Private Message by clicking on my profile picture.

Most of all, have fun! Happy dreaming!

Is that really a false awakening? Upon waking in the dream I continued the storyline and kept the characters from the previous scenes, only in a different setting. Or are all dreams within dreams considered false awakenings?

I've gone the other way, gone into a dream within a dream. Two weeks ago I found myself revisiting a dream in my sleep. I fell asleep in my dream and re-dreamed the exact same dream I had 2-3 years ago. Only this time I was able to pause the action of the dream, recant what was about to happen each step of the way, recall my feelings and basically narrate what I was doing as I re-lived the dream, detail for detail again several years later. I died in the original dream and relived the same experience again this time around, only as I was dreaming within the dream I chose to awaken the 2nd time around upon my death (the first time I continued). This time all dreams ended as I chose to end the dream within the dream.

A false awakening is when you wake up in a dream but do not actually wake up, so this would count as one. Seeing you are still sleeping and dreaming but have only dreamed that you woke up it is still possible for charachters to re-appear. If you want to become lucid I can imagine that seeing those will trigger a reality check and will make you realize that you are still dreaming (seeing FIs usually make lucidity go away).

Going by what you've written it sounds as if you became lucid a couple of times already (I envy you! ) which is great. As for your dreams being weird: I don't think they are. When you are dreaming your system for logic is impaired or does not function (or so I've been told) hence a lot of strange or impossible things are in fact possible. Dreams don't haev to make sense, in my opinion. As long as they are fun to us it's all cool.

any response to envy is good, especially if it's anger.
