Dream when half asleep, and my first post.

I have got my exams and so I was laying on my bed with a book in my hand.
As time flew by I started feeling sleepy, but I knew I wasn't completely asleep.
When I was almost going to fall asleep may be in 7-8 mins, then I had this dream that I am on a train. The train had halted at a station, I knew because I was near the door. Next moment the train started moving, I had a felling that I was going to fall because my legs got dragged and I wasn't holding anything(Newton's first Law of motion is the explanation). As a reflex action I shifted one of my leg backwards in my dream to get some support but I actually did in reality.
I banged my leg in the process and got completely awake.
and yes for reference :-Yesterday I had been travelling by train for quite some time.
Question of curiosity:- Was this a dream when sleep paralysis had not kicked in?

      Hi, and welcome to DreamViews!

What you describe sounds like a dream influenced by recent events. That is certainly common. Were you aware during the dream? You mention knowing you were falling asleep...but if you were aware in the dream that you were dreaming, that's the quality that would make it a lucid experience.

Kicking, arm flailing, head tossing and more can all occur while falling asleep or dreaming. Sleep paralysis isn't perfect for everyone by any means, particularly with shorter sleep periods.

Happy dreaming, and feel free to ask questions any time!

No it was not a lucid one.
I was conscious enough to wake if somebody would had called my name, but I was so tired that I just laid there.
      Leg movement was a reflex.
The strange part is I fell asleep while thinking I can't sleep(exams are nearing).

Hey Rookie, it could have been hypnogogic imagery (HI), which can occur during the transition from awake to sleep and dreaming. I have on occasion had really vivid dreams while I could still feel myself lying in my bed, just minutes after falling asleep, and just prior to a lucid dream. These transitional dreams/images are in a lighter stage of sleep, and could be what you experienced, since you said if someone had even called your name, you would have awoken.

And like melanie said, sleep paralysis isn't the most consistent thing, and also differs from person to person. I don't usually have SP during my HI stage.

That was not the only one, I have been startled by more such incidents recently..
Any idea why all of a sudden this is happening to me?

Have you been taking any more short naps recently? It is a guess, but it could be a combination of stress from exams combined with a short nap that made your mind create these dreams.

      Like Ophie said,
you can lightly drift into a dream, whether it be a daydream, or a deep one. SP can happen at a rate of how long you've been up and how tired your body is.

I have a habit of not sleeping in day-time even when I am awake at nights(sleep in day-time ruins the night sleep & I hate it.) can that be a reason for my tired body?
I sleep during day only when my body can't take much of continuous waking.
