Welcome to the forum!

As Robot_Butler said nightmares do make a strong impression on our conscious memory. They're easy to recall with the emotional rollercoaster they put you through. The trick is to know you're dreaming when nightmare occurs and then use lucidity to turn the dream into something less frightening.

You can close your eyes or walk around a corner (in the dream) and expect the dream scene to change. If you believe it will change then it probably will.

Plenty of dreams reported by people are actual lucid dreams where the person had no control over the action. People come here to learn control and achieve their goals.

This is a lot of reading and may take a while to absorb but it is a good resource for beginning your efforts: http://www.dreamviews.com/f20/beginn...eaming-124786/

It's a fairly comprehensive guide and answers a lot of the basic questions.
