      Hello Dreamviews!

Hello everyone, I first learned about lucid dreaming about 2-3 years ago. I only just started taking it seriously, and I found out that it can be easy if you if you are commited! So far I can at least remember one dream a night or more. But this only happens when I tell myself I will remember my dreams each night. I am trying to achieve an LD through the DILD method. I'm to scared to do WILD. Ive never experienced sleep paralysis while my mind is awake and my body is asleep. When I awake from dreams I can move my body immedietly. But I would like to experience a false awakening to see how it feels.
But I need help! I have been doing reality checks, and I did some in my dreams last night (I remember 2 dreams), but for some reason trying to put my finger does not work, also for some reason I only had 4 fingers and one thumb on both hands. Usually I have extra fingers but not this time!
So I plugged my nose and tryed to breath and it worked! But unfortunately it did not trigger a lucid dream......it should have.
I also read a digital clock in my dream, the clocks were everywhere becuase they were placed on the house where the adress was supposed to be. And instead of reading 5:59, the clocks read 599.2 but still it didn't trigger an LD. The closest I ever got was when I did an RC, and realized I was dreaming, but then the dream went black IMMEDIATLY and ended before I got lucid. I'm failing to recognize simple things like weird clocks, and being at school like at 5:00 and its dark outside because its not supposed to be dark at 5:00 pm, and I don't go lucid after a succesful RC.
Also when I do an RC and say "I'm dreaming" i always think im lucid but im not, ( this has happened about 6-7 times)
Does anyone have any tips, i would appreciate replies .Because right now I'm far from having my first lucid.

That is true. Commitment, excitement, intent, practice.

Thats an ok recall. It could be better and I bet it will be. If you don't write your dreams in dream journal, start now. It helps with recall. Keep telling your mind to remember your dreams. Try this mantra "I wake up after each dream and I remember it".

That is the easiest method to start with.

SP is a disorder. If you don't have it, you are very unlikely to get it when WILDing. FA is just a normal, non-lucid dream. It's called false awakening, because in it you dream of waking up in the morning and going after your business.

It can be handy, because if you start doing reality checks every time you get up from bed, sooner or later you will do this in your dream and it will get you lucid.

The thing is, that first awareness gives you the urge to RC and by the time you RC, you know you are dreaming. For this to happen, you need to work on your daytime awareness. You do that by asking yourself a question "wow, is this a dream?" You examine your surroundings believing that yes, you are dreaming. You do some RCs and again, you believe, you are dreaming. Then you say some mantras. Then this belief will work itself into your dreams and make you ask the same question "wow, am I dreaming?" Same way as RCs made their way into your dreams already. All you need is some awareness.

Now wait a minute. You realized you were dreaming? That's a LUCID. Doesn't matter if it ended immediatelly. You did it! First lucids normally end just as yours did.

You didn't get lucid when clock was weird, because withour awareness, everything in our dreams seems normal.

Do you mean when you falling asleep? Don't worry, one day you RC and you will be lucid.

To the contrary. You are very close. You know how I know? You seem to have the drive and understanding what you need to get your second lucid. Because you already had your first one.

This is absolutely crucial. You are 100% correct. Keep this in your mind all the time. You can have lucid dreams and let me tell you -- if you put in the work and stay consistenty, you will have success.

Don't feel bad that you have come close so many times. My experience was like yours -- when I was working up to having consistent LDs, I had a ton of these close calls. Looking back they are quite hilarious, but at the time I fretted that I'd always miss these "obvious" signs.

Don't worry, it's simply a skill that you build up with practice. As you work at this, you'll get better and better... more and more consistent. Learn to enjoy this process of "leveling up", put in the time, and you'll be successful.

Let me also back up absolutely everything gab said in her excellent reply -- most people never experience sleep paralysis. I've done a fair number of WILDs and never experienced anything like actual sleep paralysis, so there's no need to let your fear get the best of you. Even for the unlucky few that do experience it, they are perfectly safe throughout the experience. Most of the SP sufferers that I know on here have learned to transition from SP into a lucid dream. So don't let your fear hold you back.

Keep at it, and let us know if you have any questions. We'll reply if you post in this thread or also feel free to PM me or any of the other Dream Guides for help. We'll be happy to answer your questions.

      Happy dreaming!

Mine are usually the same. The phenomenon in my case starts with me not even trying to WILD. Then I feel really relaxed and sleepy and I start to see white bright light expanding from my upper view. It keeps expanding and expanding until it has completely consumed me and I take my "last breath" (like in the movies when the screen is all white when someone dies) and I pop into the dream word. One of them were like this and suddenly I was falling over a cityscape and took off, just to find out that every seagull in the sky was after meeee
