      What brought me here.

      Hello anyone or everyone!
I'm a newbie and was wanting to share what brought me here. Had a conversation with my cousin about what happens to me in my sleep. I would fall asleep and the second that I did I thought I was awake but i couldn't move at all but i could open my eyes and there would always be a shadow there watching me in the corner of my eye. I could also see what was going on around me, but i still couldn't move or even talk. My cousin said i should learn more on Lucid Dreaming so i looked it up and it brought me here. I'm glad I found this site it will help me figure out what exactly to do and what has been happening to me from the start. Another thing about me is that I have always been able to remember my dreams so I'm one step closer in learning more about LDing.

      Hi asteria24,
Welcome to DV! It sounds like you are already off to a great start, you have good dream recall and have already experienced some sleep paralysis it sounds like. Definitely take some time to peruse the wiki and the forums and let us know if anything seems confusing to you!

(I'm jealous of your name Mortalis xD)

      Welcome asteria24!

Glad you followed your cousins advice and ended up here
Your experience can indeed be seen as sleep paralysis, which is a phenomenon of sleep that occurs to some sleep and can be extremely disturbing if you don't know about it, but it's pretty harmless and there's nothing to be worried about. Do you experience this regularly? On the other hand, you won't hear much about sleep paralysis regarding lucid dreaming, because it's certainly no relation between them ^^ If you want to dig a bit deeper, you can always read this topic that was put together by many people here

Guess you already found out that recall is an important step towards lucidity Maybe you can easily take a look through your last dreams and see if you find a pattern, that would give you a great way to start associating the feeling of being asleep with these "dream signs". One of my dream signs are cats, especially my orange one, I think he gets annoyed that I don't let him sleep with me so he just sneaks into my dreams -.-

*regretting the harsh words, zoth goes find the cat and put it in his bed before finishing the rest of the post*

Anyway, you can take a read at our Beginner's Guide to Lucid Dreaming, and if you got any questions, just post it here or pm one of the guys with the green names ^^

      Zoth00,
It really only happens every few months. I remember it happening to me when i was a little girl as well. I always get scared because i cant wake up till i feel some sort of movement like my phone vibration or my dog jumping around. Through it all i know its just a dream. I always thought it was just my body beging tired but my mind wasn't so i was able to see the environment around me.

      Welcome to the forum!

I recall experiences like that more often when I was young. I think it's more common in the younger years to still have sleep issues like the ones you describe.

Read over the sleep paralysis thread zoth00 linked for you. It will tell you a great deal about what's going on.

If you find you want to know more about lucid dreaming and really get into it we have a teaching area of the forum called DreamViews Academy where we help people learn the methods. It's good to start with the Intro class as it will get you grounded in the basic training for having great dream recall and higher chances for well-controlled lucid dreams. Check it out here: Intro Class

Once you are established with the basics there are classes for advanced skill levels.

If you have any questions please feel free to post them. Many may have already been answered on the forum so the SEARCH function may be a great place to start. If you desire specific feedback please post a thread or send a private message to one of the wonderful Dream Guides. You'll recognize them by the green stars under their usernames.

      Pleasant dreams!
