      i want to become lucid

      hi everyone,

i spent yesterday almost constantly performing about 4 different reality checks and that night i went to bed that night at about 9.

i fell into a very vague and random bunch of dreams, i cant recall much of them but i do remember being in the back of a sparkly black spaceship feeling a tiny bit nauseous, and playing a piano keyboard beside the ocean.

i remember trying to get lucid and focusing on the detail of the scenery in the dreams, but it felt completely oblivious to the reality checks i was supposed to do.

this morning i woke up with a huge loss of self esteem because i would just love to explore my dream world instead of being a victim of a number of miscellaneous dreams that i dont even understand.

      any help would be appreciated,
      jack.

It seems like your problem is your reality check.

Now keep in mind I am no expert I have had only one semi-lucid dream a long time ago.

My advice is to do reality checks all the time, even if your at school and know your not dreaming. Before you know it you'll be doing one in a dream and never expect it to work.
Another thing is to know when to do reality checks, if anything seems out of place or abnormal, try and stuff your finger through your palm or breathe through your fingers.
      A couple examples of that:
Today in math class the teacher was talking about something I vaguely remembered at first, then he said something related to that (about the number 23 I think) so I instantly did a reality check.
I was making garlic bread, and I thought I picked a piece of garlic out of the bread, but it was there, so I tried to stuff my finger into my palm.

Anyways, if you need seriously serious help , then try googling around and looking at some videos, and above all, don't get discouraged, if you really want it, you got to try night after night until one day you'll have one.

      Hope this helped.
      Sweet dreams.

I do a reality check about every 40 minutes, maybe an hour. And like GrannyPigms said, you can try pushing your finger through the palm of your other hand. I do that as well as pinching my nose and seeing if i can breathe. I also look at text and then look away and back at the text to see if it's changed. Also make sure you make your reality checks mean something to you, I think i remember one person saying to think about the atoms of all the objects around you. But i don't think it should matter what you think about as long as it makes you aware and gets you thinking.

No need to get discouraged. You just started after all. Just keep practicing and learning along the way. Believe me, you will get there soon enough.

Your mind isn't used to performing reality checks during the dream state, so the idea of reality checking is to train your brain to perform these checks during the dream. Make sure when you are performing your reality checks in waking life, you are actually looking around and questioning your reality. Literally say to yourself, "Could I be dreaming right now?" Then perform your RC and see if you are awake or actually dreaming. Just keep doing these quality RCs and they will carry over into your dream state. Use every success AND failure as a chance to gain valuable experience. You can have success early, but its not something that just happens at will. Just keep practicing and striving toward lucidity. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask.
