      My First Dream

Hi! I've been really into lucid dreaming, and decided to try it out tonight. I'm gonna use the MILD technique, as it doesn't require me to go through sleep paralysis. I'm going to post my first dream on this thread. Really wondering how it goes. Some questions that I want answers on:

      - I've heard that you can be stuck in a lucid dream, how do you get out if you're in this situation?
      - Do you experience sleep paralysis in all techniques? (like MILD)
      - Why do people use WILD, when its so much harder?
      - Do you still wake up by an alarm clock?

      MY FIRST DREAM:

      -------------------
      Thanks in advance.

One of the methods you can use to get out of a LD if you're stuck is to scare yourself, so your heart rate rises, which will shock you awake. You can also kill yourself.

Sleep paralysis is only in techniques that require you to be aware, such as WILD. DILD and MILD do not take you through it (I've never heard anybody go through SP during MILD).

Really, all techniques are hard in their own way. In DILD, you have to hope that you realize you're dreaming (I've been doing everything you're supposed to, still no LD); FILD, you have to be at a certain stage of sleep in order for it to work; and so on. Really, WILD is no difficult than any other technique. It just requires practice like all the others.

I wake up by an alarm clock, but that's for school. It is recommended to set an alarm, for as you said, it is hard to get out of a LD at times.

Hope your have that LD soon!

Hi there are welcome to DV!

Sleep paralysis is not required in order to have a lucid dream and unless you happen to experience it by chance or are predisposed to it (in which case you might then use it), you generally don't have to look for it in order to WILD or LD with any other induction technique (incl. MILD).

      Sleep Paralysis Explained

WILD is quite a convenient technique because it allows you to enter and have a lucid dream from the very beginning, while with other techniques you might realize that this is a dream in the middle or end. So, theoretically it allows for more dream time. Some would also argue that you can have lucid dreams on demand with this technique, although, if you master any type of induction technique you also can have lucid dreams equally often. It may be somewhat hard especially for beginners who generally have little experience with the lucid dream state to start directly with WILD. Also keeping one's awareness when falling asleep may be a challenge.

However, all techniques here have their merit, pros and cons and all worth trying out because they make lucid dreaming induction more interesting. In the beginning we recommend choosing one or two techniques and sticking with them for couple of months, but in the long you can more confidently switch between techniques to improve proficiency in each and explore different ways to induce lucid dreams.

I use an alarm clock for my final wake and occasionally set an alarm clock for wbtbs. I also use natural wakes to do wbtb.

      UPDATE:

I dreamt about a dragon spitting fire at me and then suddenly I was in another room. Dream-me thought "how strange" and tried to levitate. (RC) It worked. But I didn't become lucid! I was disappointed as hell when I woke up.
