My first post ( and some newbie questions)

Hello guys! I found out about lucid dreaming recently (about a week ago) and I've been reading several threads on this site to learn more, and yes, I've been trying to have LD's myself, although with no success so far. I don't have a dream journal yet, but sleeping with the intention to remember my dreams along with some mantras and trying to remember my dreams in the morning have improved my dream recall by quite a bit and I think I'm having more vivid dreams as well. I can remember four separate dreams I had last night. I've been trying to have DILDs and religiously practice reality checks, again, with mantras and devotion, but I never do it in my dreams in - no matter how crazy the dreams get. Last night I was dreaming about being in The Walking Dead world. My helicopter had broken down and as I saw walkers coming, I carried the frickin helicopter on my back and started running- and my brain somehow made sense of it, like there was nothing unusual about that

How do I get myself to do an RC in a dream? How did you first do it?
Is it too early for me to be asking these questions? ( I'm kind losing my patience here
Also, is a dream journal absolutely essential?
Thank you for your time. any help is appreciated.

No it is not but it is highly encouraged if you ask any one on here i guarantee most of them will tell you it helps a lot and you should do it. You don't even need to write it by hand you can go on a computer and type it if you wish.

And for reality checks also known as RC's make sure you actually put effort in to it. This is a good tutorial for RC's. You have to believe that the RC will work.

And since gab did not get to you first i will link some helpful links

Although keeping a dream journal is not vital to remembering your dreams, it's a good way to look back on your old ones. But you don't have to keep one. Just keeping your mind on dreams and remembering them is great!

For reality checks, you're pretty much checking if you're dreaming or not. It's good to do an RC if you believe you are dreaming so that it works better. Also, as well as reality checks, you need to have awareness. Ask yourself different questions about your waking life and if anything is unusual. Is that object meant to be there? Do I know that person? Where am I? Questions like these are good to ask yourself every now and again to get more aware of your surroundings.

Thank you for the links. I actually had a sort of- semi lucid dream this morning that lasted only like 10 seconds but... I think I'm getting there! And I finally started a dream journal today on my phone's notebook. Thank you all and happy dreaming!

      welcome!
I would highly reccommend a dream journal as well... it has greatly increased the vividness, length as well as the amount of dreams I have had and it is a lot of fun to read it after a few months and see what you have been dreaming. Also it helps to discover dream signs.
I also want to add that of course it's not to early to ask those questions, but always try to be patient. If you are consistent, patient and keep trying then you will surely have more LDs soon.

      Happy dreaming to you too!

      Welcome to Dreamviews!

First of all, don't be losing your patience. Lucid dreams can't be forced. They are elicited by our intent and of course practicing awareness, RCs and mantras. Patience is the key.

The consensus on Dreamviews is, that Dream Journal is essential to have a good recall. Although thinking about your dreams and going to sleep with intent of remembering them is really great and will certainly help you, they can not replace journaling. Any form on DJ is good. It comes down to personal preference, if you partial to paper or electronic form.

RCs will show up in your non-lucids sooner or later, no worries. The most important thing is, that you really put emotions into them, and you couple them with awareness. Everytime you RC, believe that it will work, because you could be in a dream at that very moment.

We accept dreams, no matter how crazy they are, for normal, because in dreams we don't have access to our daytime memory. This can be helped with practicing daytime awareness. The more aware you will become during day, the more aware you will be in your dreams. If you check out that RCing tutorial, you will see defferent reasons you can RC for. Best way is to mix it up. Read up and let us know all your questions, we will be happy to answer. Happy dreams
