Fellow dreamers, I am Admatha... hear me snore.

Well, I don't believe I really snore, but it sounded like a clever hook for the title. Regardless it's a pleasure to be here and meet you all. I'm an IT Process Analyst by day, a dad and husband by evening, a writer and artist by night, and a dreamer by late night.

I have had extremely vivid dreams and dream recall since I was very young. At times it's been an incredible blessing, at others an abhorred curse. I can remember details about some dreams I had at 9 or 10 like I was really there and they actually happened. Ironically it's possible I have more dream memories from my young ages than I do real ones. Of course all the weed I smoked (and a stint with dropping acid) in high school probably didn't help with that.

That said, I've been very interested in the concept of lucid dreaming since I was a teenager. Songs like Silent Lucidity from Queensryche introduced me to the topic and naturally as a common dreamer and someone who had spent plenty of time experimenting with drug induced altered consciousness (which BTW i've long since stopped) I was fascinated. However it wasn't until recently that I had my first real lucid dream. As cheesy as this sounds it happened the same night I watched Inception for the 2nd time. It was absolutely incredible. There is no way to prepare yourself for how real the space is. I stayed just long enough to do a small amount of exploring and proving to myself I could manipulate an object. I did so, and lost control of the lucidity soon after as I faded back into a regular dream state. I had one more about a month after that where I willed some things to happen and woke up due to my excitement.

So, as the rest of you I'm here with the intention of learning more, connecting with other dreamers, and increasing my capabilities of becoming (and staying) lucid. I'm exploring this site, listening to the Dream Views Podcast, and reading a really good book called "A Field Guide To Lucid Dreaming".

One other note about myself, I'm a Christian. While some may think that Lucid dreaming doesn't fit well with these beliefs I see it as something very amoral that could be used in good (ethical) ways or abused. Afterall, I believe God is the one who designed me with the ability to dream so vividly and my dreams have actually led to some very pivotal moments in my spiritual life. My intent is not to get on here and get all spiritual with everyone but it's an important part of my life and this is an introduction.

So, that's me on a macro level in the context of showing up here. It's a pleasure to meet you all and I can't wait to learn more about you and your experiences. Happy dreaming!

Hello and welcome to Dreamviews. Glad to hear you've been lucid already. I don't think anyone forgets their first lucid experience. Mine consisted of running around my house for 5 seconds and it still feels exceptional. I don't think I've ever met anyone who claims that lucid dreaming is incompatible with Christian beliefs, but perhaps I'm just sheltered.

      At any rate, happy dreaming.

Nice to meet you splodeymissile. As far as the incompatibility goes, I just mean that things like meditation, lucid dreaming, etc are misunderstood and can often be considered specific to eastern religion, pagan, or new age practices... Meeting your spirit animal, etc. of course most people (regardless of belief system) seem to think I'm pretty nuts when I bring up the topic of lucid dreaming. Lol. I'm very thankful for the fact that there is scientific evidence that proves it exists and I'm not crazy to fall back on.

      Welcome to DreamViews!

I'm Christian as well and getting into this forum and lucid dreaming really did make me question whether I should be doing it at first. Concepts like astral projection, meeting other spirits and finding your dream spirits are sometimes talked about here so it made me wonder, what if I accidentally astral project (if the concept exists) or a dream character/dream guide actually ends up being an evil spirit.

Then I talked to my mom about it, and she told me not to be afraid of any of that. She said that sometimes Christians get so scared of mysticism that they may be missing out on blessings God gave us, like dreaming and that because I'm under God and nothing is stronger than God, that I don't have to worry about any spirits if I did happen to meet one (if you could possibly do such a thing in dreaming--just speculating). Those spirits can't do anything to me.

So I continue to lucid dream and it's been a huge benefit to my dream life! It's exhilarating, fun and helps me with my OCD. I used to hate dreaming and believe that my OCD had a big effect on it, but ever since I started lucid dreaming I look forward to dreaming!

In my opinion, dream characters are a way to get in touch with our subconscious. They may be random like the programming of a video game, or reveal something about ourselves, maybe a mix of both, that I'm still trying to find out. But it's so interesting. I don't believe spirits enter dreams myself.

My first lucid dream was realizing I was dreaming after being chased around the house by a murderer and trying to wake up--yup, you never forget your first lucid dream! My first purposefully initiated lucid dream since joining this forum was so much more rewarding!

      Happy dreams!

      Welcome to the forums!

Nice to meet so many fellow Christians on this forum! I too have wondered in the past whether lucid dreaming went against Christianity, but I've come to the conclusion that, as long as you don't use lucid dreams to fulfill sinful fantasies like sex, there's no harm involved. In fact, just the capacity for our minds to dream at all shows God's amazing complexity and wisdom.

I remember my first lucid very well also. I was in my old bedroom when I realized something was wrong and became lucid. I stabilized, and then just to see what I could do, I kind of stuck my hand through my bedroom door. I think I tried to fly a little bit too, but just being in a lucid itself was exhilarating.

      Hey Admatha, welcome to DreamViews!

The DV podcasts are great, hope you're enjoying them! A Field Guide To Lucid Dreaming has been on my to read list , I've heard good things about it.

If you'd like to chat with fellow DV members, come check out the DV IRC/chat. It's a great place to hang out and talk about lucid dreaming or anything else.

      Haha, I noticed this too.

I know what you mean, I'm still always amazed at how real it all feels. My first lucid dream started in my house, I noticed that the tv with the local news was being glitchy, the audio wasn't synced with the video and the graphics were messed up. I realized I was dreaming and did an RC just to confirm, after that I interacted with DC versions of my family and explored my house for about a minute until I woke up.
