      Intro by edward34

Hello, my name is Edward and I am 16 years old. I am a junior in high school. I have recently just got into lucid dreaming; its been about a month. I haven't tried to lucid dream yet, I have been doing reality checks but haven't performed one in my dream. My recall has improved greatly, in the beginning I was only able to fill about 1/4 of a page . I can fill the whole page now, there was even one time when I filled four pages from just one dream. For my first month I have just been trying to build my recall and get into a constant sleep cycle. One problem is that I can recall a dream but I don't ever remember being present or aware; I just have the memories of the dream. I don't know if you only get that when you LD or you can experience that without an LD. Looking forward to your replies.

      Welcome, Edward!

It's great to hear that your recall is improving!
Keeping a DJ and performing reality checks is a great way to induce DILDs (dream induced lucid dreams) where you become aware of the dream state from within the dream.
It takes different amounts of time for each individual to have their first lucid dream, but if you continue with the practices you're currently doing, I'm sure it won't be long before you start to question your reality while you're dreaming!

There are different levels of awareness within dreams.
By definition, to be lucid within a dream simply means to recognise that you are currently dreaming.
It's possible to have lower levels of lucidity, which some people refer to as being 'semi-lucid'. This is more like a vague background awareness than a definite realisation.
You generally won't have that kind of self-awareness in non-lucid dreams, which is why we're able to believe in fictional scenarios without questioning where we are or who these strange characters are who we've never met.

I wish you luck on your lucid journey!
Time and consistency are the keys to success, so keep up the great work!
Let us know if you have any more questions.

Welcome! I'm starting out too - I've wanted to have a lucid dream for a couple of years (I was lazy and gave up on it), but I've recently had an amazing experience with a random lucid dream and I am much more committed now. My recall has improved as well and I can distinctly remember my dreams from the last 3 REM cycles. Make sure you read a lot about MILD and practice awareness. Since I've started I've had about four lucid dreams.

      Welcome aboard CFH983743

Keep it some discipline and you will start to lucid dream a lot. Takes a bit of practice, but once you get one, you will get lots of lucids
