      Which Newbie You Be?

Hello, all. My name's Joshua. I haven't really ever had a lucid dream--well, I suppose I should say I've never really been in control of a lucid dream before. I have had a few dreams where I've realized "Hey, this is a dream!" and I've even had goofy dreams and thought "Man, this is a crazy dream! I can't wait to tell someone about it tomorrow!" but I've never quite made the leap from "This is a dream," to "You know, I could control this if I wanted to." I've read a little about the subject, and so I'm fairly familar with the really basic stuff. I haven't really tried to improve my chances of having lucid dreams, yet. My sleeping habits are really horrible for the most part, so I'd need to work on that first.

Anywho, I just thought I'd join and see if I could learn anything.

Welcome to Dream Views, Josh and Kelly.

You're at a distinct advantage over a lot of people new to this site, Josh. You're already familiar with lucid dreaming, so you pretty much have the hardest step out of the way. Learning to be more comfortable with the lucid state shouldn't take you too long.

Make yourselves comfortable. I'm sure you'll be here a while.

      True beginner

well i had dreams where at sometimes i knew what i was doin and knew that it was a dream but i was caught up in my dream as in often i will be running and it feels as if it can't run no matter how hard i tried and instead of grasping the fact thats its a dream i just broke down and started cryin cause i thought i was paralyzed and then i wake up but it was other times where it was like i was lookin at myself do stuff. One time i was fighting this monster and i was lookin at myself as if it was a movie have this happen to anybody else and is that close to lucid dreaming?

Check out this recent post: http://www.dreamviews.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18695

It's about not being able to run properly in dreams. It happens to a lot of people (myself included). Same kind of thing with not being able to punch with any force.

There are a lot of times where I know I'm dreaming, but am still drawn to continue with whatever the dream scenario is. For instance, if there is an alien attack, and I know I'm dreaming, I'll go along with the alien attack, feeling the danger as if it was real, but I'd just go along with the situation because I like the adventure more than just waving my hand and making the alien attack disappear. That is still a lucid dream.

However lucidity flickers. If you're in a lucid dream and you're just standing there, looking around at your lucid dream world, and all of a sudden an alien attack happens, it is very possible, indeed common, to get so shocked and freaked out that you forget about lucidity and start believing the alien attack is really happening.

Neither of those scenarios are strange. They happen a lot. I can lose and regain lucidity like 4 times in one dream just because sometimes I forget I'm dreaming, and I'll remember a few minutes later.

      Hope this helps.
