      Question about WILDs

Im new here, and i have had lucid dreams in the past, but not for a few years now. Anyways, i have some questoins about WILDs.

      1) can you do WILDs at any time, or does it have to be done right after waking up...since REM sleep stage is the goal?

      2) generally, how long does it take from lying down, till the begging of the lucid dream part in a WILD?

      3) people say that they experience trembling and spasms... where on the body do these occur???

thanks, ive been making a dream journal to get started and i have had two nights in a row with ordinary dreams.

Hey there and welcome to the forum!
      1) Yes you can, but it is typically easier to do it w/WBTB.
      2) It varies in different people, while some take about 15-30mins, others may take 2-3 hours.

And keeping a DJ really helps as well

From what I've heard, sleep paralysis and the associated sensations tend to begin in one area of the body that varies from person to person, say the hands or feet, and then spread to the rest of the body.

I use WILD with WBTB. To be honest, I haven't tried it any other way.

It TOTALLY depends. On heaps of stuff. The first time that it worked for me was about 30 minutes after going back to bed. The second successful WILD was about the same. That INCLUDES relaxation, though, which usually takes me a good 10 minutes.

I don't get vibrations any more. I just get warmth and heaviness. If I CONCENTRATE I can get vibrations, but I only get SP very lightly. When they do occur, for me, they occur MAINLY in my legs and arms, but also on my back, and they run accross my body in "waves". Quite fun.

Oh! I DO get hypnic jerks. These are quite fun. It's like a little whole-body spasm which lasts a fraction of a second. A "jerk" so to speak. Look it up on Wiki, I think there's a good article about it there.

      1. you don't need to sleep beforehand, but if you sleep for 5 hours or so, your body is primed to re-enter REM (dreaming) sleep...

      2. if going from the waking state (with no previous sleep that day), it can take up to 2 hours.
if you have slept for awhile (especially more than 4 or 5 hours), it is possible to wake up and re-enter a lucid dream only seconds later (had this happen numerous times)

      3. some people experience no SP, some experience it locally, some feel it all at once all over their body...it is slightly different for everyone, but always completely harmless and nothing to be alarmed about

welcome, and good luck in your journey

Ahh!! I never knew this, til locating this topic! I always wondered if this was possible, since I never seem to get SP while conscious, even though I have all the other symptoms! I can usually get up and go about my business right away if I try hard enough, so that explains it! I don't just suck at WILD xD

Yeah, don't worry about it. I don't get SP at all anymore. Hasn't stopped me from having successful WILDs. I've only had two, I know, but still.

I only get SP as certain. But I found something that works alot for myself personally. Just try the following and see what happens. When you go to sleep, set an alarm for like 5 hours of sleep. When you get up, just go back to sleep, don't try to WILD/WBTB. Why? Becuase your alarm most of the time will you wake you up in the middle of a cycle, which means your body probably will need some time to reset it. Going back to sleep, you'll have a dream or two, and you will wake up again probably about 2 hours later, right after a dream. This is time to try and WILD/WBTB, because you're dead in the middle of REM cycles. Upon waking, if you go back to sleep, you should be within your next dream within minutes, so the sleep paralysis will come on pretty fast. Just stay concious of it. You should still be tried enough that your body will fall asleep. From there, it's alot of fun.

In the end you should get about 7-9 hours of sleep. So no worries about not getting enough sleep even if you fail attempts
